sir1963:

antonknee: Yeah I’m gonna order this... question is, order it through Vodafone to make the most of interest free payments, or order it through Apple for (possible) quicker delivery/ less shenanigans 🤔

LOL, I looked at the "Interest free" terms for my iPhone 11 that 2 degrees was offering.

It required me to spend another $10/month on a plan than what I was already on (and no where near even using even half of it)

So I stayed on my plan as the interest I would pay over the short term more than paid for its self over the longer term.

Yeah The IFP/ MRO deals do require a monthly plan (on account/ pay monthly, not prepay), and sometimes a high end one. I am on Vodafone’s $100 plan anyway and in the case of the SE the interest free payments are available on the entire range of plans (which start at $40/month).

Bravo Apple, thats something I thought I would never say. I'm an Android guy apart from getting an ipod touch back in 2008 for my wife and getting it inscribed on the back.

I personally think this is the best iPhone bought out in a long time for features price and maybe the one that will get me to jump to Apple, I have been using Samsung Phones for years but take exception that you can pay over $2000 dollars for a phone and get only 2 years of software updates, not acceptable I have been thinking of moving camps to another Android device or possibly Apple for awhile now.

Some advice can I still use Google Photos, are there any fish bones re moving ecosystem for contacts, messages and phone copying history etc.

And I like taking photos are there any reviews on photo quality night shots etc.

You can use Google Apps on iPhone just fine. By some accounts apparently they work better on iPhone than Android.

@davidcole Quote: bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha - yes you can get CarPlay for my car (2010), but it's aftermarket, by Clarion, and the unit cost was $4700NZD + install.

You can get adapter/dongle-type units that reside in the car and provide wireless CarPlay.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

@eracode Couldn't get a professional replacement headunit + trim? I had that done to one of my cars and the cost was much, much less.

@DeepBlueSky I have Google Photos syncing. It mostly syncs in the background but every now and then you do need to open up the app then sync starts. This is an iPhone limitation, and isn't annoying at all as you do normally get a notification. I personally also pay for iCloud (only costs a few dollars a month) for peace of mind that my iPhone is fully backed up. Good thing with iCloud storage is you can share it to other iPhone users in the family too. Again, no regrets moving from Android to iPhone and knowing that my phone isn't going out of support in a few years is a huge bonus.

Not just iPhone. I have same issue on Galaxy S10e. Photos often does not update until I open app

Some cars cost a fortune. Certain Subarus come to mind, where to put in an aftermarket head unit you also end up having to replace all the AC controls.

Thanks Michael, still weighing it up will be coming from a Note8 so fence sitting until the reviews come in or maybe wait until iPhone 12 as this seems like a big year / major change but there is always the cost.

This maybe a good phone to dip my toes into the eco system and see if I'm okay with the 'walled garden' approach.

What adapter is this? Do you have an example? Also how does it connect to the car?

The high end IPhones take amazing  night time shoots. However my guess would be that this would not be the case for new iPhone Se. they’d be slightly above average at a guess.

no issues to move over from android. When you set up an iPhone for the first time, it gives you the option to move from android. It will transfer the important stuff like contacts, text messages, mail, calendar, photos and any apps that you currently have installed on android will move over as well. So long as they exist on the App Store.

For 95% of use cases Android and iOs are interchangeable. Most of the google software and services are available on Apple.

There are some edge cases where one is demonstrably superior but these days for most people it comes down to the hardware package rather than iOs or Android.

Yes, I have the wired version in my CX-5 but I have never seen the wireless version in any Japanese or Korean vehicle. I'd be interested to know whether anyone knows of any specific models that support it?

Not that it really matters to me because I only bought my car a year ago so by the time I replace it I imagine that wireless CarPlay will be pretty standard.

Couple of new Skoda models do, Scala and can’t remember the other one

Sadly the 2020 Skoda Superb Wagon I bought is still wired CarPlay 😔. That’s if it ever gets made as the factory is still closed.

How do you think it'll go with Pogo? I like the look of this, just not keen on the drop down in screen size.

I expect it'll run fantastically. It already runs nicely on my 7 and buttery smooth on my XR, and it won't suffer from any of the aspect ratio issues it has on the taller, narrower iPhone screens. PoGo is one of the reasons I wanted the smaller form-factor - I find it hard to play on a phone I can't hold comfortably. I'm very used to the screen size, having played on either a 6S or a 7 since the game launched. It might be a bit of an adjustment going down from a larger screen, though.

Google Photos is also available on iOS. However I would recommend iCloud Photos once you have copied them over to your iPhone due to privacy.

There is an app called move to iOS on Android (developed by Apple) when you switch. Do it because you will love it ;)

Re software update, the iPhone SE will get at least 5 years of yearly updates I reckon.
