I've seen a couple of reviews - mostly positive when comparing it to the competition, Given the plethora of apps for iOS I am hoping that the new Apple TV will quickly eclipse other devices in terms of apps available.

Mine has shipped with a delivery date of Monday so I am also hoping it might arrive at work tomorrow. Would be good to have the weekend to see if I can coax Siri functionality out of it.

Its a 1.0 product? How do you reckon? I count 3 previous versions of the Apple TV.

Its 1.0 if you consider that this is the first iteration to include an app store.

The problems I have with the reviews I've seen is they all assume the device has Siri support. I'd be interested in the overall comparison with the competition with this feature absent, as the reviews generally say the ATV is the pick of the crop. Would that still be the case for our local variant?

To be honest, whist Siri is a nice to have I'm not that fussed about not having it. My main reason for getting one is the possibilities opened up by the app store, in the review posted earlier in the thread they talk about a comic book with sound on a big screen which sounds kinda cool. Who knows what others will come up with.

If someone can make an app for live and recorded TV via a TV Server, this could be the one box to rule them all for me.

Out for delivery now should have it by 0930 am. Always amazes me the speed of delivery from Sydney to Auckland :)

If Siri can make searching easier, then I'm all for it. Using the software keyboard (which sounds like takes a backwards step in tvOS) is a real pain to type in. And relying on the Remote app isn't a solution, as it often "forgets" the connection to my current Apple TV. Typical present day Apple technology; looks good on paper, unreliable in the field.

I also like the idea of the "What did she say?" function, once again powered by Siri.

The one I read said that Siri was cool but was really only useful with a few of the apps, that it wasn't anywhere near as good as Siri on iOS in terms of general queries, and had missed a few opportunities in terms of what it could have done. However, they still gave the device a 9/10 in terms of everything else.

I just got a text to say mine is delivering today, yay!

So... what apps are you all interested in getting, current and future? I'll be immediately installing Simplex (Plex-compatible client). For future, I am hoping for the NZ on demand services (TVNZ, TV3, Lightbox) and Spotify. My ATV plugs through my home theatre so I can play music from it. I know you can airplay with Spotify but it would be much nicer to have a native app. I have a feeling my US iTunes account might be coming in handy over the next few weeks.

Would be quite cool if Astrill releases a VPN app. Would allow changing countries and switching on/off right on the device.

Something to stream flac.

NZ ondemand services.

Maybe something like Flipboard for news with more focus on video.

Also hopefully we can have apps installed from different stores like how I have Hulu installed on my NZ iPad and just fire up a VPN to access it.

Yes, you can do this on the PlayStation and it's awesome. Once you've logged in and downloaded the app, it shows up regardless of which store it was purchased from. That happens on iOS so I am very hopeful tvOS will be the same.

Thats how I see it, enough wholesale changes to make it new.

100% agree. The issue is that in the US, theor usability of the ATV far exceeds ours, its basically an American TV device.

For us it could be huge if it covers everything

I wonder if it can be backed up and restored? Surely so. ATV's are iOS, the TVOS is just a moniker to make it new and vibrant
I imagine it will backup to iTunes OTA

Just need to know if there are actually any microphones inside those holes, care to take it apart :-)
