JimmyC: If all 4S phones have the same 'warmer' white I'd be fine with that. But, I have two other iDevices as a yard stick, one that I still use very regularly, with a cooler, and to me, clearer white. I don't need to read the forums to doubt, I just look at my iPad.

I have quite a few iDevices too. Both my partner and I have had each iPhone, we both have iPads, and both got iPhone 4S's last week. The 4S's match each other and match the iPdid in colour temperature. I agree though, the iPhone 4 definitely had a blue-white screen, it was on both our iPhone 4's so accepted it, it was the first 'retina' screen so took it as one of its characteristics. But far from the warmer screen being faulty, I actually feel the opposite as it is much more natural.

Go to the Telecom store and ask for a replacement, but maybe comparing with other iPhone 4S's first would be better as I'm sure you'll find it isn't a fault with your iPhone as you'll probably find your replacement the same.

I seem to recall Apple releasing a firmware update for the iPhone4 to remedy many peoples unhappiness (perceived or otherwise) when comparing screen colour to the 3GS. Perhaps they'll do the same for the 4S?

This is pretty much the difference I see between my 4 and 4S. I can alleviate a lot of that by turning the brightness up on the 4S, but that ofcourse impacts battery life too.

You agree that it isn't a fault with the screen then, it's just a colour balance setting? If so there will be no point in getting a replacement.

Maybe Apple should let us have two options, 'ice white' and 'natural' :-)

My new 4S has a blue tint screen and I couldn't be happier. My old 4 had a green/yellowish tint and there is no question to me that the blue tint is superior. The text really stands off the screen and looks cleaner. It's really impressive. Apple has always used a variety of screens and it really is luck of the draw -- line up a variety of 4's and 4S's and you'll see a few different colour tints I am sure.

Pretty sure it's inherent in the actual LCD panel. Little tweaks may improve it (brightness, software) but they can't really compensate for the underlying difference, in my experience anyway.

So which is right then? It would seem that it comes to personal preference. I have the warmer screen and couldn't be happier either. There are bound to be differences in screens as I'm sure no two are exactly the same.

The question I'm asking though is who decides if a certain colour is a fault when it comes down to personal preference? As we see, some prefer the blue-white and some others prefer the natural white.

Maybe someone should setup a thread to do swaps so everyone will be happy :-)

Very true - it's personal preference. It seems like more are "unhappy" with the yellower tint, but it's certainly not a universal view. I know I was never completely happy with the screen on my 4. My partners 4 was bluer and I was always envious of it! Not any more though.

I'm glad there is no more iPhone envy in your household. It's good that you are happy.

In all seriousness though, maybe it would be good for Apple to offer a choice of colour temperature settings. As we know with TV sets, people like their pictures to display differently to others, and offering a few alternatives would at least mean the screen could match personal preference better, whatever others felt was correct.

I can't agree to that all 'cos I don't know what it is. Just went to the Telecom store and compared mine with the demo model. Very clear difference. Unfortunately their Help guy (Mike) was swamped so I'll try again later.

Well I'd take the ice white everytime. I've had two previous iPhones and two iPads, none of them have had the yellow tinge before my white 4S.

The same yellowing issue was with the iPhone 4. It's generally just an issue with the glue not being fully dry yet. I'd say give it a couple weeks (the usual amount of time for the issue to disappear on the 4 last year) and you'll likely find that the problem is no more.

The glue issue is different to what is being discussed here I think. The yellow I had on the 4 didn't go away over time.

Hopefully Telecom will be able to replace yours with one that is more pleasing.

Well I doubt they can replace Siri's Australian voice with Christina Hendricks but I'll be sure to ask ;-)

Don't start me on Siri's voice. I'm from UK and haven't picked up an accent and can't get Aussie or US Siri to work reliably for me so have to use the British Siri settings which mean I have the male voice. Would by far prefer one of the female voices. More frustrating is I will be in Los Angeles in a few weeks and even though Siri has enhanced capabilities there I won't be able to use it fully as it only works with US English! Can't quite understand that limitation. Time to start practicing other accents I think :-)

unlocker: Has anyone pre-ordered from the Apple store? Any update on the delivery status?

Ordered within a few minutes of the store updating and my order is now 'Preparing for Shipment' and shows delivery 15/11/2011 - 22/11/2011 (be impressive if it arrived yesterday!)

Mine has also just flicked over to 'preparing for shipment', but with a delivery date target of 14-21 November which matches the dates originally quoted.

I have just received confirmation that my order has been despatched, with an ETA of tomorrow. Unfortunately I'm going to be flat out over the next couple of days so won't get the chance to play with my new toy until the weekend but it's good to know that I will definitely have it by then.
