Hi all. I haven't owned an iphone before but have loved the iPad I purchased when it was released last year, so when I saw the competitive plans for the iPhone 4s I decided I should get one (early Christmas present for myself). I queued up for about half an hour on Friday morning at the local Telecom store and eventually bought a 16gb black model on the $80 plan with a 24 month contract. Service from telecom was great, despite some of the staff having been up til 5am for the launch! It took about 2 hours for my new sim to take over my telecom prepay number and since then I've been having an awesome time with it. Amazing how much interest there has been in it from colleagues and friends, few of whom are into technology so goes to show how good apple's marketing and publicity is.

Anyway, the main point of my post was to see if any other users purchased the 4s from telecom on the 24 month contracts and had their minutes doubled? Ie I should get 200 mins free but my letter received today from telecom says I'm getting 400 minutes, and that is what my online account shows. I realise there is a promotion to double minutes for business customers but my plan is definitely the standard retail customer plan. I'm not complaining - it's great but just a bit surprised. Makes me even happier I went with Telecom!

Cheers.

A reflection. The 4S got a less than mediocre response when announced by Tim Cook. No iPhone 5, no 4" screen. It has dual core and a better camera that merely brings it to current smartphone specs. But, it's been released now, and the response has been great. I always feel that the OS is what makes it, and that continues to evolve. As SJ says, they don't invent, they refine to what the users want.

I can see the day where Siri evolves in each iOS5.x update, more integration to current functions. If that does transpire, Siri may end up being the next big thing. Add the iPhone 5, with I assume a 4.x screen, and that makes a great all round system. Given Apples slower clock speed on the 4S and the more than impressive benchmarks, I'm not sure if they will buy into the triple core, quad core game, they may progress iOS as always, and have the best battery life going. Hardware specs are a real diminishing return. Its about usability and battery life

Just wondering if anyone who pre-ordered from the Apple Website on the 7th or later received their phone yet?

Ordered 4 iPhones on the 4th and have received them today. Little over 24hours from the dispatch notification email. Which is very impressive. Was slated for delivery 14-21st of November

Ordered a phone on the 4th, dispatch noticed was sent yesterday and the phone was received today. Going from the TNT tracking, it was dispatched late yesterday afternoon from Apple in Sydney, arrived in Auckland around midnight, processed in Auckland at 6am this morning before arriving in the Wellington depot at 11am. Item was delivered at 1pm so pretty quick once it was sent.

The delivery was slated for 14 - 21 November so that was good. A friend also ordered at the same time and received it today.

Pretty much exactly the same scenario with me. Over the weekend I'm going to get my 2degrees connection transferred from my conventional SIM over to a micro SIM which I have ready to go - hopefully they can do that on a Saturday - and then I'm guessing that it's just a matter of syncing my old iPhone and then letting iTunes take care of the new one.

Yes, sync and backup old phone, and restore from backup to the new.

Are you on iOS5 now? I am unsure if that matters, but it would pay maybe to get the old to iOS5 if it isnt already

To follow up on my own question - my order, placed Nov 7th, has shipped today which seems in-line with the previous reports.

Thanks.

My 3GS was actually on iOS 4 but the transfer seems to have worked fine without any need to update the outgoing device.

I ordered a 64gb iPhone 4S from the Telecom website on Wednesday 16th and it arrived this morning (Friday 18th).

So if you haven't ordered one already Telecom seems like a really good choice!

Their website said 2-3 weeks.

My wife will be very happy with her new phone :) (and not so unhappy when my Samsung Galaxy Note arrives)

Wade: Likewise www.screenhug.co.nz looks okay, can anyone vouch for them?

Even more suspicious there is no actual address on the whois:

registrant_contact_name: Josh Maunsell
registrant_contact_address1: Northcote
registrant_contact_city: North Shore
registrant_contact_province: North Shore
registrant_contact_postalcode: 0627

registrant_contact_email: support@screenhug.co.nz

Ended up buying through Trademe rather than their online store as TM offered credit card payment.

Goods arrived in a timely fashion, look good quality etc, is a perfect fit for the 4s around volume/mute switch. I am happy enough to vouch that they seem all legit. Received a 10% off online voucher to use the website next time as a cherry on the top
