Stuff reporting iOS5 issues. But while thats sensationalist news, it did mention some are saying the performance has dropped, didnt say what phones though.

Any feed back on the speed or snappyness after the upgrade?

I came home at lunch to try again but still no go.

its is now saying "the iphone cannot be restored at this time because the iphone software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable.

its so frustrating not having my phone as its my music/clock/email

Feels much the same to me on my 3rd gen Touch, feels much the same as 4.3.X though I dont know what im losing out on compared to the full iPhone 4 affair. Quite like the pull down notifications thing, only thing thats really stood out...

Barely use the thing anymore though, keyboard seems ehh... compared to WP7. Using other platforms then coming back to this really makes you appreciate more than one hardware button for navigation

This may be a silly question, but is it the same iOS5 file for both the iPhone 4 and iPad 2?  In other words, can I just download it once and apply it to both my iPhone 4 and iPad 2?

jofizz:Well it looks like 1st gen iPad owners are SOL at the moment with gestures. DAMMIT, this was one of the features I was most looking foward to, a quicker way to switch between apps. Booooooooo.

Here's a guide to activate multitouch gestures without jailbreak/xcode. Not sure if it still works on iOS5 but could be worth a try: http://www.icopybot.com/blog/enable-multitouch-gestures-on-ipad-without-jailbreaking.htm

Took 3 hours but finally managerd to get my iPhone 4 upgraded. After setup of iCloud though the option in Settings is greyed out. I can login to icloud.com and iTunes says it has synced with iCloud... this might be an all day affair at this rate.

This happened to me. It's because you will have a restriction on changing/editing accounts. unrestrict it then you can change the icloud settings.

The iPhone is supposed to be plugged up to power for you to wi-fi sync right? I seem to be syncing via wi-fi sans power connection.

I'm on an iPod Touch 4th gen and the speed feels pretty much the same except for Safari which seems to be quite a bit faster.

Nope. All iDevices will need specific IPSW.

You can download them directly: Neowin covered this

Updated.. and iphone is now restoring from backup. I hope its restoring settings and not restoring back to 4.3.1!

The on screen messages aren't very clear as to what is happening/will happen next.

I had no problems with iphone4 and ipad2.

Probably the only new feature that I found useful was the wifi sync.
