sdav: The NZ Apple store is currently being updated. Wonder if it means anything...

Edit: Actually I think that is a world-wide thing... means nothing lol!

Yeah worldwide, but pre-orders for the 5c are meant to go live in US soon.

Yeah that's what I was thinking after making the comment *facepalm*

jarledb: Apple did show "December 2013" as the release date for the rest of the world during the presentation. I have seen it mentioned that it would translate to middle of december, but we will just have to wait and see how it turns out.

I haven't viewed the whole presentation and don't intend to, but my recollection of what was reported is that certain specified countries would get it this month with availability in 100 countries 'by December'. To me that implies a staggered rollout to those 100 countries.

They must be the only company that still takes their store down to update products. Wonder what sort of cms they are running it on.

I believe that it's just to drum up interest; new products can and have been added without taking the site down.

I can see that, but it most cost them sales, if someone tries to buy something and the site is down, and they then go elsewhere. Amazons site went down recently and apparently they lost millions per minute while it was down.

All our supplies are Apple Australia....and I dont see why they dont treat NZ like another Aussie stat and supply NZ at the same time.

One could also say the same about Google.  The Nexus 4 is on the AU Play store but not NZ one.   We're only one market when it suits the Ozzies.

Is there something like YouShop/Shipito for Australia? It might not be worthwhile with two lots of GST, but does such a service exist?

jarledb: Well, release date for iPhone 5s/iPhone 5c is said to be in mid december, and with a little bad luck there won't be enough devices around and you might have to wait until 2014 before you can get your hands on a device.

The key note said "by December" for the remaining 100 or so countries on the list but I would doubt all countries will have to wait until then.

I've been keeping my eye on the Apple Australia and US sites to see how pre orders of the 5C are going (in terms of expected delivery dates) and they are still showing as 20/9 expected delivery.  I can only read from this that demand is lower than usual as from memory all other pre orders have blown out to 3 or so weeks very quickly.  In saying that, I am wanting a 5S and demand on that device could be much different...

Some writer on Stuff is speculating that NZ could be part of the second wave release on 10 October (source http://www.stuff.co.nz/technology/gadgets/9166569/New-Apples-come-as-a-pair).  I can't find out where he got 10 October as the second wave though.

I think you'll find in the case of Apple that these outages only increase sales and not turn many people away.  I've seen it written in forums so many times when Apple's site is down due to updates and it creates so much frenzy and speculation (aka free advertising!).
