Noel Leeming had cases, but I didn't ask too much about them as I assumed they were the official Apple ones, and we'll probably go for a cheaper third party alternative.

cathy88: Both Yoobee at CHCH have stock, there was no line.
However they do not have any 3g models except for White 32GB Wifi + 3G.
Bought a 16gb Space Gray, cant justify spending $150 for another 16gb or spending $200 for 3G personally

You might have seen me then, picked up the 32GB wifi 3G from YooBee ChCh too (Riccarton mall) however they only had white :(

I think I was the 3rd person who bought one.

1st person bought a white one of something
2nd person also bought a white one of something

While I was lining up I heard them saying no white ones.
So I went to Noel Leeming and they had a space gray on display. Had a play with it loved it more then the silver.
Came back to yoobee then they told me they have gray and it just arrived.

haha I was the first person, white ipad air and black smart case. Wanted grey but they only had white at the time. Its currently sitting at work but can't play with it :(

I recong they would get more grey 3g later this afternoon. Maybe you should call them after work and do an exchange given that you havnt open it yet ^^.

Wasnt really a fan of the black smart case, wouldnt look good on a space gray.

But they look awesome on the white, (I used to have a white ipad with black leather smart cover)

I probably should have waited to see the Vodafone offerings but I'm guessing they'll be underwhelming...

YooBee have the magnetic cases, the ones that cover all the back. No screen protectors yet though.

Also happy to report, no coloured tint on mine :)

Good to hear about the tint. I might wait for folio cases before I buy. I have a Cygnett one on my 3 that is nice, opens up, stands the iPad well at multiple angles.

Looks like $749 for 16GB iPad Air and a 12 month plan. $899 for a 32GB model.

Well what a debacle that was!  I was at JB Hifi (Queen Street, Auckland)  by 9am this morning to purchase a space grey 64GB cellular model.  There were two other guys also there wanting iPads, but they both wanted 128GB cellular models.  After a bit of faffing around by the sales assistant who didn’t really have any idea of what stock they had, he returned from the storeroom saying something about Apple not releasing them yet or something like that, which I took for they had no stock of those models.

The three of us then headed for Noel Leeming just down the road.  The two guys wanting 128GB models got there first and proceeded to ask if any were in stock.  As the iPad Airs had just been delivered at 8:30am this morning (they told us), they didn’t have the stock in their computer system yet.  Before the sales assistant returned from the storeroom with a 128GB cellular model, the keenest of the two had decided to head straight to DSE instead.  The other guy then decided to purchase the 128GB model.  Before he completed the sale, he asked what I wanted, and I told him space grey 64BG cellular.  He spent about 10 mins out the back and came back with a white/silver model in 64GB, all while the first guy was waiting to pay for his one.  (I had asked another sales assistant to look for me, but the guy we initially talked to told him to leave it [I assume commission was at play here]).  I reminded him I wanted a space grey one and he then spent the next couple of mins tapping on his computer while the manager finally decided to complete the other guys sale (with my apologies for holding him up).

Somehow his computer was now magically showing the stock at which stage I told him I was in a bit of a rush (had an urgent issue to attend to back at work).  I should have seen through this, but I tend to trust people initially if they give me no reason not to. He asked for payment of the iPad without first retrieving it from out the back, and I said to him “so you definitely have that model in stock?” to which I was told yes.  Another 10 mins out the back and a couple of prompts from the manager to hurry, he came back empty handed saying that there was a box missing.  I think he was hoping I'd just want to leave the store with something and take the white model.  I reminded him I was in a hurry so he hurriedly processed a refund and I left the store empty handed.  That’ll learn me for being impatient I guess!

I had to head straight back to work, and have now ordered the model I want from the Apple website for delivery on Thursday.  I’m normally as impatient as they come, but for some reason this time I feel happy to wait another couple of days :-).  For those wanting higher capacity cellular models, it appears as if there may be a shortage of stock with NZ retailers at this point in time.

UPDATE: before I got around to posting the above, I got a further round of incompetence from NL.  The original guy who "served" me this morning called to say they now had a 64GB cellular space grey in stock if I wanted it.  After confirming twice it was the model I wanted, I said to hold while I checked if I could still cancel my online order with Apple.  Was able to do so and checked with the guy that he would definitely hold it for me (he said yes).  So I cancelled my online order and said I'd be there to collect it within 30 mins.  Two mins later I got another call from the same guy saying that he had made a mistake and it was a 128GB model, not the 64GB I was after!  At this stage I was pretty, well, let's just say excited as I had cancelled my Apple order and to re-order.  He asked me to wait while they checked out the back again, and finally came back to say they had the 64GB I was after.  Maybe his way of trying to upsell to me again hoping I was desperate enough?  So I eventually managed to get it in my hot little hands, but not before having to work for it!  God only knows what state my credit card is in with all these payments and reverse payments.

Never again am I going to try to get an iDevice on launch day in this country.  Until next year at least :-).  I wish we had an Apple store in NZ where the sales assistants would surely have a better idea of the product they sell.  When I got my iPhone 5S from the Sydney Apple store a couple of weeks ago, it was painless (although admittedly not launch day over there).

Well that's a relief! Maybe there's just a bad batch in the US?

I've ordered a SmartSuit case in silver from these guys: http://www.thejoyfactory.com/ipadair I really like their range. Got a new case for my iPhone 5 while I was there, too. The shipping to NZ is a bit pricy (I used the free US shipping option to my YouShop address in the hope it'll be a bit cheaper) but I wanted a wake/sleep case with a shell and I don't like the colour range Apple's cases offer - no girly options! Until it arrives I've bought a puffer sleeve lined with polar fleece from The Warehouse that holds any 10" tablet. Once my proper case comes I'll transfer the puffer sleeve to my old 1st gen iPad that I'll be taking to work.

The only issue I have found is the iwork and ilife aren't downloading but I put this down to many people downloading it or my work wifi.

These downloaded fine for me on the new iPad Air. They weren't showing as free on the older iPhone 5 after that (they should be) so I did a hard reset of the iPhone and then they showed up as a free download.

No issues with tint or anything else with either of the new Pads.

Am I missing something? I thought like with the iphone 5 there would be 5 rows of icons but still only 4?

iPad screen size is exactly the same as it always has been, so no change in the number of rows.
