Wow, seriously apple this is pitiful.
I'm on my third attempt at updating the iOS and keep getting continual -34 errors, phone goes to restore from backup and fails.
So much for the Apple superiority.
This is a complete joke, we should not have to enter into flight mode or any other crazy configuration in order to get the update to just work.
If Android updates are smoother than this I might have to give the GS2 a look methinks.

I'm too scared to attempt with my ipad2......

I got my device updated but now getting an odd error:

If I go into itunes and tell it to check for firmware updates I get this:

"iTunes could not check for an update to the carrier settings for your iPhone. An unknown error occurred (1630)"

Would this be the network still overloaded or 2degrees needing to update the carrier bundle?

Also of note, after I upgraded to iOS5 my 2degrees APN settings had disappeared

Mine installed, then failed to sync with itunes because "the sync could not finish".
Currently trying to restore again for the 7th time. I am so over ios at this point, going to try a downgrade back to the last version of ios4 and leave it at that, at least I'll be able to use the phone.

Be nice to know if these issues are due to server load. As more countries woke up today, the demand will continue.

I'm now reluctant, but its hard to see that this upgrade was not fully tested, so I am expecting server issues to be the root cause. Hoping....

I'm going to put my balls on the line here and say it's server issues cause once installed iOS 5 is amazing, imo anyway.

I had not one issue right through the whole process.

Notifications are good, the seamlessness of iMessage is great, all good here.

I spent nearly 8 hours today trying to sort it out my end. Thankfully it is now sorted but man it was full on and stressful! I am glad it is all done for me but appreciate anyone who is finding it hard.

Useful link listing the 200+ features, unofficial

http://techzoom.org/ios-5-complete-list-of-200-new-features/

My question. I see some features are iPad only, it doesn't say iPad1 or iPad2. Does anyone know if its both iPads.

LOL @ all the issues with the IOS rollout. Everyone slammed microsoft for doing staged rollouts of the windows phone updates, but after seeing the pileup that occurred from apples delivery, i think microsoft has the right idea. I expect that apples support lines are full to overflowing, and i'm hearing reports of a lot of bricked devices.

I am quite surprised by the responses but of course people will only post when there is a problem. I hope the issues you guys are having are sorted out soon as I know what a failed upgrade feels like (HTC Titan) but personally I couldn't have had an easier upgrade on 2 devices. The iphone upgrade only took 45 min, the ipad about 35min as it has less apps so the back up was quicker.

The download itself took approx 20min each and I processed the first one not long after it was available. The ipad I started about midday nz time.

I had to restart macbook to ensure itunes remembered my two devices wirelessly.

I was kind of hoping that siri would be available but found out before my upgrade that it is only on the 4s. That might have to wait as my iphone is only just over a year old and still by far the best phone I have ever owned.

I haven't noticed any degradation in performance and so far all the apps I use work as before. I have had notification so far of one app that needed to be upgraded because of IOS5 but the main ones I use work without a hitch.

Had no issues here, I plugged my phone in before leaving for work and chose the 'Download Only' option for the iOS update, then when I got home, plugged the phone in again and it took about 30 minutes to do the whole thing. Plugged my wife's phone in straight after and hers was even quicker (less data on her phone).

I'm liking it so far, certainly does not feel any slower and I like the notifications (about time they did this) and iMessage just works.

JarrodM: The iPhone is supposed to be plugged up to power for you to wi-fi sync right? I seem to be syncing via wi-fi sans power connection.

Need to plug in to do it automatically (e.g. overnight) but you can do it manually without plugging in.
