Yatey: Any intial thoughts from everyones purchases today? Am considering updating from my iPad 3, but might need a bit of a push :)

We're coming from an iPad2, so bear that in mind. But it was definitely a worthwhile upgrade for us. Form factor is smaller, device is lighter, and Retina display is much nicer than the iPad 2 screen.

I'm also not noticing any of the display issues mentioned earlier in the thread.

So cancelled my order with Apple online and picked up one at DSE on the way home seeing they had stock.

Have to say really like tablet so far, weight is real good over older versions Ipad. Only thing is have got a slight yellow tinge on screen like mentioned by others. But not to bad so will stick with it for now and hope it improves.

One negative ive found is hands get sweaty on back of tablet when playing games. I have been using Sony tablet Z for a bit lately and have to say I like the feel of that much better in hand. Would of stuck with that if Android had an app store as good as IOS, but they dont.

bbunnys: Only thing is have got a slight yellow tinge on screen like mentioned by others. But not to bad so will stick with it for now and hope it improves.

I seem to recall similar problems occurring when the 3rd generation was initially released, and it was reported that this yellow tinge at the edges of the display only persists for a short time after manufacturing while the glue is drying. So there's a good chance that it won't be an ongoing problem.

I didn't have that problem with my 3rd gen, but I did notice some very minor light drop off around the left edge of the display. At the time I was wondering whether to return it and eventually decided not to, and when I look at it now I can only just barely make it out so I'm not sure if it's improved over time or if I was just being too fussy when I first noticed it.

I am really tempted to sell my Ipad4 128GB 4G + Wi-Fi and upgrade to the next one, would be interested in anyone's real world comparison on the 4 - Air.

Love my 4 but if the Air is significantly better and I could get good money for my 4 then I'd be keen!

The model I'm after (64GB 4G model) is a crazy price at expertinfotech.co.nz - that's $200 less than RRP, a way bigger discount than the same company has on other models (so may be a mistake).

That said, having dug around comments on various threads here it seems like some customers have had issues dealing with this company, including over warranty maters, so may be better to stick to a company providing NZ-sourced stock.

Any thoughts?

EDIT - I'm sure it's a mistake, given what I assume is the white model is selling for $1246 - probably just put a "0" when it should have been a "2". If this is the case, and the parallel imported price is $3 less than the NZ-sourced model, why would anyone bother purchasing the former? I would have thought that the only advantage of buying parallel imported over an otherwise identical NZ product was price, so what gives??!!

I'm pretty sure that, under the Fair Trading Act, if they are advertising it for that price, they have to sell it to you for that price. That said, I've had some pretty unsatisfactory experiences with them. The first time they didn't have in stock what they were advertising and the second time they told me that I didn't want what I was asking for, I wanted something twice the price, and then proceeded to infer I didn't know what I was talking about when I insisted on the first item. Then they didn't have what I wanted in stock anyway so I went down the road to PB Tech who had exactly what I was after and didn't try to tell me I was an idiot. A friend bought a high-end camera from them with no issues, though.

I got a call from the manager at the Queen Street NL this morning apologising for the bad run of service I received yesterday when acquiring my iPad Air from them (see my post on the previous page of this thread). They offered me a $20 credit towards any accessories of my choice. They just happened to have received the case I wanted for my iPad Air (the Air version of the case I have for my iPad 3) so I picked that up at a discount.

Credit to NL for doing this. I didn't lay a complaint with them but they decided off their own bat to make things up to me. This sort of thing is not so common in today's world I find. Happy customer in the end :-)

"Delivery Statuses for TNT Parcels. The status >Exception< means that an unforeseen event avoids the delivery of your package. Some examples of status exceptions include a customs delay, no one to accept delivery of your package, etc."

I also ordered a 64GB Ipad from Apple yesterday. It looks like they both came in the same shipment. My Ipad left the TNT depot at 7.46am and it's current status says "Shipment In Transit", but my ones going to Wanganui.

Yesterday I went to DSE at store opening expecting a queue.

However there is no queue to my surprise. Also the shop keeper doesn't know much about it. He checked the computer and he want me to place an order and pick up later in the day.

I went to Noel Leeming next door, Bango! and they have stock in store.

Noel Leeming also saying they have new stock of ipad air accessories from belkin.

I have looked at the screen protector and it says "for new ipad" and it states nothing about "ipad air", so I didn't buy for safe. Also the case is not my tasting.

After went home opening the ipad and trying to inspect the "yellow screen" issues. Luckly my ipad has no such issue (16gb wifi white). Yay!

Anyway..

I am now looking for a good ipad air screen protector and light flip case. Do you guys know any?

Wow, weird! I called them a couple of hours ago and the person (after a long time off investigating the issue) came back to me and said it was with the driver and should be with me later today. But looking at the site just now, it has it still listed as "shipment arrived at TNT location." The customer service rep says she couldn't see why it was listed as an exception, everything looked fine. Guess we'll see.

Oh, and props to Noel Leeming for making amends for their horrible service. That's quite heartening.

They are good like that, I too got a voucher after some bad service.

I was reading that the ipad air is a lot cheaper to build than the ipad3/4, so apple look to be making better margins off them. Especially as they haven't dropped in price in NZ, even with our strong NZ dollar. Also apparently it costs about $8us for 16GB of memory, but apple see a 32 GB model for $100 us more, so they really want people to buy the models with larger storage, as that is where they make their money.

Ordered mine at 00.10 on the 5th, was given an estimated delivery of 8/11, but it's apparently been sitting at TNT in Auckland since about 07.00 today. The spare lightning connector I ordered at the same time is sitting on my desk now, having arrived earlier today. I just rang TNT, apparently I am likely to get delivery of the iPad tomorrow.
