scottjpalmer: I had not one issue right through the whole process.

Notifications are good, the seamlessness of iMessage is great, all good here.

Same here.  Took about 4 hours to download last night, but left my phone connected overnight and when I woke up, all was working fine.

A couple of things though - why won't it let me move Newsstand into a folder?  I probably won't use it, and it bugs me that Apple gives it special treatment like this.  Secondly, I can't find iMessage.  It didn't seem to install with IOS5, and I can't find it as an app in the Store.  Is it a separate app or built into Message?

Newsstand is a folder and for some reason you can't store folders inside other folders.

iMessage is built into the normal texting app. Apparently the button turns a different colour when the recipient has iMessage support (I don't actually have iOS 5 so I can't say the colour for sure, I'm just repeating from memory what I saw on another site).

iMessage works well. Easy to tell since the speech bubble colour changes to blue.. it also states 'iMessage' on the screen.
Normal SMS messages are green speech bubbles.

Re. hiding Newstand in a folder if you don't use it - looks like there is a way to put it in a folder if you've got quick fingers. This may be a wee bug that will get 'fixed', but it could be useful - basically you have to make a new folder and quickly move Newstand to it before your phone knows what's going on.... see -

I know of a user who cannot do data, but he can call, text. Sounds like Cellular Data APN missing but in iOS5 there is no visible APN settings (I think) Might a re sync help as aren't all APNs in an iOS included carrier bundle now?

Also, has anyone tested tethering?

Once I finally got the upgrade to run (3200 issues) it went smoothly other then gamecentre which managed to some how switch the save games for one game (minitower) between my iPhone and our iPad.
Am liking the new features. Had not even picked up on iMessage until me and another guy at work were testing and realised we were txting via iMessages rather then over the network. Very cool.
Been testing a bit with location reminders. Working out what the impact on battery is which is significant. Working out if it is to much of a over head or not.

What carrier? I am with Telecom and had a carrier update come though during the upgrade process. Seems to be working fine.

Telecom. I expect he has interrupted the process, I have seen others who had missing things, doing a resync fixed that, which I assume the upgrade just went ahead and completed.

imessage is great, but still waiting for everyone to update so they have it!

Have found the animation in my 3gs is slightly jerky, as the free ram runs down a lot quicker with less apps open.

The background updating of apps is much better.

The airport utility app is really useful (be good to be able to config my apple tv from it too though).

I have just moved to Telecom and got a carrier settings update. I note now on the main settings page there is now a "carrier" option and mine is set to auto (I think it used to be buried in settings/phone).

The ability to set an APN seems to have been removed. Not sure whether this info is now coming from my network selection of updated carrier settings info.

Just saw in settings/about/ Carrier Telecom NZ 11.1

This should make it easier for you to switch carrier, if the settings are up to date.

There is one tweak I'd love to see to iMessage; being able to specify that iMessage should only be used on Wifi, and SMS should be used when only 3G is available.

Just connect your iDevice to your computer via USB and on the device screen in iTunes there should be a checkbox for wifi syncing. Once you enable it you can disconnect the cable and when you click sync it'll sync over wifi as long as your iDevice and PC are connected to the same network.
