Has anyone imported one from US apple store. Was service ok.

Seems like it would be quite a bit cheaper than NZ apple store.

On current rates about #$390NZ for ipad and then about $25-30 yourshop postage.

Should be no customs duty etc due to price. Beats $479 from NZ store.

Plus gst and possibly custom fees. The charger also won't be for NZ. Plus no cga protection. I would by from apple NZ myself as not enough of a saving if any

Agreed with the above - plus you'll have to wait. Whereas if you walked into your local electronics store you could get it on the spot.

Not worth the effort. The markup is minimal on these devices, most of the cost is in labour to get the thing here.

US$329 @ 0.82 = NZ$401+GST = $460 - they are retailing for NZ$479 - for once we're not being ripped off!

However I tried both Harvey Normasn and Noel Leemings inTory St Wgtn and neither had stock for the WIFI only 16GB model

Anyone know a Wgtn store with stock?

Yes but you don't have to pay gst on it from US due to its price.

I didn't think you could by from the US store unless you have a US Apple ID and US payment method (i.e. wont allow purchase in USD using a NZ credit card?

For the sake of $80 I would rather buy locally, not have to worry about import duty and GST if your unlucky to get picked up (AFAIK they use NZD as the limit so this may be over the threshold) and have some protection under the CGA. Sounds like a lot of work and worry for little gain to me.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

I've found when buying from apple online they won't respect the CGA and won't fix warranty issues after your 1 year warranty, maybe buy from a local NZ retailer instead

Also remember that the US apple.com doesn't show state tax which is need added upon checkout depending on which state you ship it to & you can't avoid that as Apple won't ship internationally from it's US store so you will have to use a forwarder which is another cost again.

For the sake of less than $100 I would buy in NZ and get protection from the CGA and a NZ Charger

I believe the NZ apple online store is operated by a NZ registered company, and if so it has to abide by the CGA. I have heard of people taking them to the DT before.

I was working out if I should get an Ipad mini when I go over in May but for the price when you add tax etc in the US it isn't worth it.

In my case it wasn't worth not having it for the flight over.

Also you need to add a charger for NZ and the fact that your credit card is not charged at the latest exchange rate and there is a few percent charged by your bank.

I would be interested to know more if you have it

when I talk to the Apple CSRs they refuse to even try to understand what the CGA is, and refuse to give me a NZ address to serve DT papers on them

You pay GST on the item price + shipping, so it would be over the $400 threshold. Totally not worth it.

I got a 16GB black wifi iPad Mini from JB Hifi on Willis Street last Friday. They've probably sold out now, but it might be worth checking if you're still looking.
