on my iPhone 8 I've got 4 screens with all my programs / icons on

the first (main) screen has 15, swipe to next one and it has 24, next one has 1, next one has 7

is there some way I can rearrange them to they are all on 2-3 screens and not 'spread out'? - It just seems odd that one screen only has 1 on it and the next only 7

I've had a look in settings, but can't find anything that could help me

also my 4 pics 1 word game has gone blank - just happened last night..... I solved one word then the screen went black / blank.... went back into it this morning and screen is just black / blank.... any ideas how to fix it?

thanks in advance

Long press on any app icon and select "Edit Home Screen"

The app icons will all start jiggling and can be moved around

To fix the other app, double click the home button then swipe up the card representing the app. Then relaunch. That's a Force quit and should sort it out

Press and hold on an app icon to bring up movement ( all icons will start to shake with a x up top right if you want to delete)

Move the icon where you want it and let go. When dragging hover it close to the edge of the screen to move the icon to other screens.

If an app is black screened then you can give it a force restart. Bring up the background app view (if you have a home button double click it quickly) find the app and then swipe up to clear it. Launch it again and see if it runs. If not try re-installing from app store.

  • There are no settings anywhere wrt arranging icons on the screen.
  • You can also drag icons on top of each other to create groups of icons in a folder
  • You can also use emojis to name your folders
  • Using folder allows you to consolidate your multiple screens of icons into 1 screen.

<rant> It is frustrating that on a screen, the icons will always move up & append themselves to the last row, but you can't tell the system to arrange in alphabetical, date added, app size or custom order. If Apple wants to force the placement of icons, why not fill up the screens in alphabetical order starting at screen 1? Why allow multiple half full screens? Why can I not place icons anywhere on the screen with gaps between icons? </rant>

Would love alphabetical order personally... I do it for my apps and just put the four most used on the dock.

Also in settings>general>reset there is an option to reset home screen layout if you like.

Also, if you drag one icon onto another and let go, It will create and put them both into a new folder.

Yep - as above. I have one home screen - most apps are sorted into category folders. Okay you have to tap to open a folder to get at some apps, but that's easier than swiping through several screens - and you know exactly where they are.

Well after proudly telling the wife I had found out how to re-arrange the icons on my phone she said "I already knew how to do that"..... but she didn't seem to know when I asked her about a week ago!

the only other problem is the iPhone 8 won't connect to my Bluetooth speaker - I've got a cheapish JBL Bluetooth speaker and my old iPhone 4s would connect to it no problem, but the 8 doesn't seem to recognise / pick up the speaker - even if the speaker is right next to the phone. Bluetooth is turned on as is the speaker but it won't connect

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Time for more learning: These 5 Cute Little iOS Tricks Have Transformed How I Use My iPhone from Forbes.

  1. When moving apps, hold app with one finger, scroll between screens using another finger
  2. Move multiple apps by first getting apps to jiggle, select & hold first app, then tap additional apps. Now all can be moved simultaneously
  3. Position cursor: First method: by pressing and holding the space bar, you’ll feel a response under your finger as all the keys on the keyboard vanish and the cursor flashes. Now, drag your finger around the keyboard and watch as the cursor moves daintily around so you can place it exactly where you want. Older phone options vary.
  4. Speak your mind (and punctuation): Hi Tony comma new paragraph I hope you’re well period new paragraph let me know when you’re in town open brackets which I hope ...
  5. Undo with a tap: Swipe left with three fingers and at the top of the display, the word Undo appears as the email you binned magically reappears in the list.
