After having the iPhone for the last couple of days which i really like and i am always learning about.
One thing i have learnt is i want to look after my $1000+ phone.
And i am thinking the best way to do this is with some sort of case.

I don't really want to buy one from overseas etc.

What have you brought and from where? How much?

Cheers Stew

Do you mind if the skin adds extra bulk or do you want a sleek case? If you want a sleek case I recommend the Incipio Feather, got it off trademe for $40, there is a user who sells this brand of case. It also comes with two screen protectors. Its very nice and adds extra grip.

No need for a screen protector. The screen is made of glass, you will find it near impossible to scratch. I had my 3G for a year and my screen was never scratched. Also the screen on the 3GS has a coating on it to make it easier to clean, which really works btw (in comparison to my 3G) so a screen protector may remove that.

I did at one stage have a InvisibleShield, which worked well on my 3G but unfortunately it made it so it wouldn't fit into the iPhone dock or my car mount so I removed it.

Cheers

I got a black Incipio Feather from Dick Smith Electronics for $39.95 and I can also recommend it.

Having two screens protectors was helpful if you are worried about messing the first one up.

Finding retail shops with stock was difficult.

Does the Incipio Featherclip onto the iphone? I think i want something that stops it from sliding on the seat and the dash of the car etc. So im guessing some sort of decent silicone?

Bought a Belkin silicon case from Vodafone. Really nice and snug and gives it some cushioning so you don't have to be absolutely pedantic about puting it down etc.

I use an Invisibleguard thingy....cost around $30 and are available on http://www.invisibleguard.co.nz/index.php?main_page=index&zenid=k21fp386edj0lkd55gap017gn7 usually cheaper than trademe.

I can vouch for it and only time i take one off mine is when it gets too grubby. Thing with these is that its all in the application. Keep messing around until it sits perfectly and use one of those ugly $10 silicone covers to hold it on overnight and it comes out primo!!!

First one i used i tried to stick a sharp knife through the plastic and it took a fair bit of strength until it got through. Obviously if you drop it onto concrete from a fair height it wont stop bangs, but any incidental scuffing and scratching wont be a problem.

No i dont own the site lol just a satisfied client.

The force is strong with this one!

Yes the Incipio Feather clips onto the phone. I don't think it would be grippy enough to stop it sliding around on the dash though. It does add some grip the makes it fell much safer to hold onto as oppossed to the polished plastic of the naked iPhone. Its not made out of silicone the website calls it "ultra strong polymer", but I would call it strong plastic! You harldly notice it is there and doesn't catch lint like some cases I've read about.

I had a hard case on my 3g for near on a year-Griffin
I took it off a few weeks ago and have managed to get a scratch on the back case. This just before putting it on trademe too which is a pain.
Hard to believe. Front screen is fine whilst this was on. No damage whatsoever

I quite like these... Do you need to remove the cover to use the docking station or is it thin enough?
I do like the idea of the silicon covers, but it means you have to pull them out if you want to use the dock :(

Um I cant say I know. If you have a universal dock it would definatly fit but if its the 3G dock it may be a close call. I myself have the Xtand so it fits using the Incipio Feather case with the cable plugged in and also give you the ability to rotate to use in landscape mode.

INVISIBLE SHIELD turns your phone yellow after a few months, not worth it...

By the way, there are some REAL cheap original sealed iphone 3g docks on trademe.
They got for $39.99 or something, I bought one myself, almost half price compared to
vodafone's $59.99!
