March 11th: who is getting the new iPad 2, and are you replacing an existing iPad?

I'll be getting this one. Refused to get the first version because I knew v2 would be a marked improvement. The form factor and other physical improvements make this the one for me :)

It's very nice, if i had the money i would but am happy enough with the 1st gen, the biggest thing that would make me buy it straight away is the front camera as i'm always overseas and great to keep in touch with home.
Hopefully it won't take long to jailbreak 4.3 so the camera can be used for skype.

Absolutely.  I have been holding off buying one until version 2 came out.

I am definitely getting the new iPad 2 - I was well convinced about the usefulness of the 1st gen iPad in my home and in mobile situations, but after it became my 'window to the world' during the ChCh quake when there was no power and phone it became invaluable.

My wife will inherit the 1st gen one which will hopefully reduce the battles over who gets to use the current one and I will get the new model... (Although given that she Skypes with the current one the battles may remain and she may claim the new one leaving me with the current!)

so it has facetime with those cameras, but will I also be able to use skype with video calling?
My rellys don't have iphones so facetime is useless to me, but skype would be a deal clincher

freitasm: March 11th: who is getting the new iPad 2, and are you replacing an existing iPad?

Isn't it coming out on the 25th for New Zealand? Unless you are specifically talking about the US launch date?

Fabian: Hopefully it won't take long to jailbreak 4.3 so the camera can be used for skype.

Not 100% sure about the iPad, but doesn't the latest version of Skype on the iPhone 4 make use of the front and back cameras already?

Feel free to correct me if I am the one in the wrong! :P

Skype can use the camera on the iPhone 4 so doubtless it'll be able to use it on the iPad. Apple are pretty good at giving 3rd party apps access to hardware these days.

It is still too big,  isn't it?

It is not going to replace my laptop (for .NET programming)
It is not going to replace my mobile phone

I may end up carrying three devices with me if I decide to get one of the new model.

I will probably wait for iPad 3 for smaller size, AMOLED screen, even more cores in CPU...

The keynote is available in iTunes if anyone's interested in watching it. 850MB worth.

Also isn't the date March 25th for release? March 11th is for iOS 4.3...
