33coupe: So I've managed to borrow as denon dp23f while I wait for something else to come up (and to see if I'm hooked on this vinyl lark).
The cartridge is a DL 80 ml, but it got a pretty hard life by their grand kids so I need to get a new one before I can try it.
After a bit of research I'm still quite confused on what I should get for it. A few in a similar position said that The denon dl110 was a good choice (120 usd), but now retails for 4-500nzd!
I was looking for something no more than $200 that will hopefully give a good sound.
Can anyone help / recommend any?
Thanks

A wee bit out of the price range, but to provide a bit of feedback to previous comments.
I've a Pro-Ject 1-Xpression 3 Comfort feeding through a Pro-Ject Phono Box USB preamp from the Listening Post. The turntable has the auto-lift at the end of the record and I've absolutely no issues with the setup. Having spent decades in the past listening to vinyl, I can't get too hung up on any minor sound differences that the auto-lift may or may not make. It's just nice not to have to rush up and lift the needle when you are doing something else. And what the heck, the sound is hugely better than anything I had in the 70's :-)
Nokia 6110, 6210, 6234, Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1, Huawei Ideos X5 (Windows Mobile), Samsung Galaxy SIII, LG G4, OnePlus 5, iPhone Xs Max (briefly), S21 Ultra. And I thought I hadn't had many phones - but the first one around 1997.
If you're starting from scratch it would be cheaper to get a turntable with cartridge and built-in phono pre-amp :

More than my budget, but I'm a sucker for stuff that might be cheap.
Nice but ...
Budget creep + specification creep.
And you'll still need a pre-amp.

<snip> I probably shouldn't have bought the ortofon 2m red and preamp! (might keep preamp)
What preamp did you buy?
