I've got an IBM ThinkPad 600 (yep, oldie) going free to anyone that wants to do something with it. It comes complete with install disks (floppy), modem, external floppy drive, mouse, leads, and manuals.

Sadly, this laptop has had very little use. It was put away into storage when it's owner (my late husband) was killed and completely forgotten about.

It's probably useful for little more than recycling now but I thought I'd put it out here in case anyone has a use for it.

Free. Pickup in Palmerston North. DM me if you want it.

Hey, have you listed a price, location and how much shipping would be to other parts of New Zealand? Also if you are asking for a PM make sure your Privacy settings allow your account to receive PM otherwise people can't contact you. Also note if you are selling something we ask you to offer to other members first. Links to private sales (including Trade Me posts) aren't accepted anymore and will be removed.

Dear Lynne,

>It was put away into storage when it's owner (my late husband) was killed and completely forgotten about. <

I'm sure you didn't mean that about your husband? .

R.

LOL. Where did those commas go?

"It was put away into storage, when it's owner (my late husband) was killed, and completely forgotten about. "

Oh well, if its of no use to anyone it will see a sledgehammer on the weekend and be trashed.

Is the laptop fully operational though? Does it power up and boot?

Would be all over free tech, but as I live in Auckland I'd hate to have you take the time to post it.
Nice of you to put it out here for offer though :) I would've thought something like this would be great for a small project for someone, get the creativity flowing.

I haven't had a chance to check. I'm in a mad, "get everything sorted ready to ship to Canada" phase and sorting and packing an entire household on my own is a much bigger job than I had anticipated. Everything electrical is having to go, plus books, board games, camping gear, antiques & collectables, furntiture, and you name it I have to get rid of it.

I have so much older (and newer) tech gear that I cannot believe how much we have hung onto. I know someone here is waiting for me to take pics of my Motorolla brick - sorry, just been too busy.

To add to it, I am a zealot over keeping manuals. Pretty much everything I've got either has the complete original box and papers, or is just missing the box. Heck, I've even got the original IBM little blue book and the 330-hour BASIC book for the ZX81!
Just call me hoarder (but only of tech).

Seriously - if anyone is looking for anything ancient just ask me. There's a good chance I may have it!

Come for a trip down to Palmy with a van. I can give you all the free tech your heart could desire ;)

Now how could any self respecting geek refuse an offer like that!

Last chance - I don't want to throw this out so if you want it please let me know.

I even found the ThinkPad keyring (unused, still in its box) that goes with this gear.

If it comes to it, I'm sure your local Recycling Center would love to take any working tech you still have left? My local one is full of old tech that proves useful once in a while :-). And even the most ancient laptops don't sit on their shelves long.

They wanted $50 from me to recycle it. If nobody wants it then its going to the tip.

There might have to be. I have a loaded liquor cabinet and can't take any alcohol with me due to horrendous duty and taxes if I do. I might just need some help to dispose of it all ;)

I'm off to Montreal because it seemed like a good idea at the time ;)
Seriously, I've had itchy feet for awhile and have opportunities there that I don't have here. It's a permanent move and I won't be coming back to NZ.
