Seeing if anyone has one lying around before I buy new....

Preferably 512gb version but any version locally would do.

If you end up buying new... Do you know how local retailers such as MightyApe got their stock? They must be parallel imports, but since Valve is only selling direct to consumers, it's not clear how they're getting more than a handful.

Not sure but I know on other providers its actuallt valve selling it - which is strange as they dont sell it directly through steam.

In bigger markets (US, EU) Valve sell it directly on Steam under the hardware section. In other markets there are official retailers who sell it instead like Komodo in Asia, I imagine Mightyape and Kogan in Aus get them through those or smaller on-sellers in US. (FYI the 512GB is roughly $1100nzd in Hong Kong).
