Has anyone seen where all the Black cat 5e stranded 305m rolls have gone? All I see are solid core rolls in black these days.

probably because most people just buy pre-terminated patch cables. making a couple of them is fine, but when you need 30 of them it becomes a chore.

PB Tech shows them in stock - https://www.pbtech.com/pacific/product/CABDNX2972/Dynamix-C-C5E-ST-R-Cat5e-UTP-Stranded-Cable-Roll.

Who said the OP wants patch cables? That link isn't to the NZ domain, and is for ivory cat5e, not black as requested by the OP.

It appears stranded Cat5e 305m rolls are mostly discontinued, looking at the wholesalers it's a mix of colours from various brands (in what appears to be remaining stock, mostly ivory).

Any reason for wanting 5e over Cat6? CDL has Cat6 Black Stranded (C-C6-ST-R-BLACK) due back in stock later this week so most of the retailers will no doubt restock / be able to order it in for you at not much more than 5e costs.

In my case I wanted some because I still had heaps of the plugs, and its noticeably thinner. I have not seen any plugs or wire to make up slim patch cables yet, and when its got to be just the right length you gotta make them.

Things that use screw terminals really need stranded cables, its not always about ethernet and rj45 use.

Yeah I saw that PB tech stock above but it's in ivory. Maybe I will have to get that but just seeing if I can get it in black first.

Reason for wanting black and stranded is that I'm making a 6-way 30m loom for some outside broadcast work (just serial data) so stranded just makes it easy to roll it out and roll it back in after a job, and black is better than white when it's outside all the time.

Holy moly! Almost $500 just for that?! I wonder why there's so little stock these days!

Yep, it's pretty crazy I'm sure they used to be like 300 5 years ago!

I'm currently planning to order a bunch, alot of it for permeant outdoor life but dont really want to deal with goopy crap on indoor runs. that's before the hybrid fibre, for some longer runs.

Should have stocked up years ago instead of running out dammit!

I was getting premade patch cables and chopping off one end when I wanted some of specific colours to go between patch panel and devices with green screw terminals for serial. Didn't want to invest in a whole box and I could use the other half of the cut at the other end of the run. Not seen them in 30m tho.
