We are currently having fiber installed down our shared driveway so I'm looking to change from my VDSL connection to the 900 / 400 plan. Been with Snap / 2degrees for nigh on ten years now so will be interesting to see if they let me keep my free static IP and have the reduced price for the gig plan. Will update with my experience here once I find out.

Gave 2D a call and told them what I wanted. They were going to give me the deal but I would have to pay for my static ip. Told them I would think it over but a few minutes later I got a call back from them saying that it had been approved given I had been a customer for so long. Fantastic service from the team and why I am still a happy customer after so long. Great experience all around.

On the website it says $4 per month will be added from October 2020 but if you call them it would be delayed until January 2021.  Is this $4 payable for those who sign a contract before this date or those customers who had a previous contract that is yet to expire?

We're currently on the 100/20 plan $85 reduced to $75 with a post paid mobile phone which includes a landline.  Which is also cheaper than the current 100/20 plans available now.

Hi, new customers/those who have recently signed a contract will have theirs delayed until January. If you're on a previous contract, the costs increase from October 2. Here are the FAQ: https://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/help-and-support/broadband-and-landline/billing-and-payment/broadband-price-increase-october-2020/

We signed the contract November 2019.  I assume these are Chorus charges, are these allowed to increase?

Yes. Chorus is putting the price up by around $1. There’s been other years where the price has gone up by Chorus but no price increase by 2degrees.

2Degrees can put the price up while people are under contract as they are allowing people to break their contracts at no cost.

Allowing people to break their contracts means that 2degrees is not breaking the fair contracts legislation part of the law.

It looks like you only have around a month left on contract when increase happens. From this thread some people have been breaking contract and resigning for the ultimate plan at discounted rate. Seems to depend which CSR they get when ring.

Edit, I’ll paste some of the wording, as the break contract has a time window on it. Way I read everything is price goes up by $4 to what currently paying, not to web site prices if currently paying below them.

", so if you do decide you wish to leave us as a result of this price increase, you’re able to do so without incurring early exit fees for 30 days before the increase is introduced, even if you’re still in a contract"

I might call them and end the current contract and bring forward the 900 speed plan contract then.  If they allow one to end a contract without penalties then one could end it and sign another 2Degrees contract right ....

Yeah, we are paying $85 including a landline which is normally $15.  So without a landline that is $70 minus the $10 for a post paid then it's $60.  I did have a read of the website that section I was not that clear.  It also says customers will be contacted by email, we haven't received an email about that so I am not sure if we are on the exemption list .... I have searched for 2degrees emails back to about April 2020 this year.

On the 21st Sept we have gotten an invoice that is for the period 16 October - 16 November which is our last month.

The break contract may not apply if they’re not increasing the price under contract.

’‘if you do decide you wish to leave us as a result of this price increase,"

I would’ve thought they would have sent emails to everyone by now, weather under contract or not. I received one.

My contract expires around March next year, I have free landline as well. I think $89 including landline is still a sweet deal so will stick it out. Landline stops being free at end of contract.
Will ring at end of contract to see what they will offer for another contract.

Yup.  I wasn't able to sign another when mine still has 2 months to rexpire.  I guess now with the price updates and it remains as it is, we would just sign up to the 100/20 plan for another 12 months.  Still a large increase from $60/mo without landline but with a post paid mobile plan.  100/20 has been perfect for our usage.  If the price was 100/20 for a non contract $79 and a $75 contract for ultimate (as before) obviously we would had gone for the latter.

I got connected today at 5pm, brought forward from Oct 21st.

But as they have done for a few other people, they have capped my DL at 100 and Upload is about where it should be.

Will give them a call tomorrow to get it sorted.

Is there a 100mbits Ethernet somewhere in your network? Often this shows up as a less-than-100mbits due to the overheads which prevents a full 100mbits speed. May be worth checking the Ethernet connections to make sure it's all at 1000mbits.
