10:30 and still very very poor intl performance. I'm guessing there has been a few additional technical issues to sort.
Maybe Friday will be better .....

Hi gents;

bandwidth is being commissioned now. There have been a couple of holdups, but it's being slowly migrated on over the next hour or so. Improvements should become noticable shortly.

cheers

10:45pm - That's it. I've had enough! I'm moving to another ISP over the weekend. Maybe I'll get better than dialup for my $60 per month.

Now I can't even browse ordinary web pages. Pages are taking forever to display. Even getting into this forum took about five minutes, and almost two minutes for the Compose page to fully display. So much for the big improvement. This whole shamble can be summed up in three letters:

MBE - Male Bovine Excrement - Figure it out!

I assume it's not done yet, as I'm still getting 500-1200kbps to L.A. (my conn. syncs at 17MBps)

I'm just going to wait until tomorrow and see what its like.
I understand there can always be last minute hitches  and as long as there are regular status updates I'm prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt.

okay my patience is wearing thin
first it's 8pm, then 10pm, then we have to wait some arbitary amount of time, just let us know when the upgrade is 100% complete please, losing hope rapidly...

Now that it's been acknowledged we've all been receiving a substandard level of service, are we all going to be compensated for it?

Heh. You know what happens over the next hour or so? People start going to sleep. It's all smoke and mirrors at the moment. That upgrade ain't coming any time soon.

after 11:30 most of the users go to sleep and everything is normal again, "delay till most users are offline and bandwidth is available again"

"WE HAVE FIXED THIS ISSUE!!!"

Well looks like we have to wait till latter on today for Orcon to post wither or not there issue got fixes..?

But the strange but good thing about tonight was that I was on Half Life 2: Death-match and then Team Fortress 2, all night till about 30 mins ago, and never did it lag, the whole night I got about 120-150 ping. Looks like gaming (for those 2 games) are set at priority over website and downloads...

But why I get such good pings and every one else doesn't, I really wouldn't know...

Keep us informed Orcon.

Cheers Techno

Good evening again - we sucessfully completed migration of traffic by around midnight and have been keeping an eye on things since then. Things are looking good and users should notice a good improvement in performance from here on out, particularly at peak times.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, as will Duncan, so please feel free to leave feedback.

cheers

Hi Thomas

Good to here it went successfully.

I will be testing Ventrilo over the weekend to see if I can now stay connected to the Server & actually hear people.

Can you explain to us if and how the "traffic management" differs across the available and retired plans?  As from this discussion we seem to be getting rathered varied speeds and latency results, perhaps effected by plan or perhaps not.

* Grandfathered plans - old 256k / 40gb
* Recently retired plans - ZeroShock, FS/128k
* New plans  i.e Orcon Purple, Gold etc..
* New Orcon+ plans on certain exchanges

Thanks
Matt

Firstly, sincere thanks to the Orcon team members for posting on this forum. It is without doubt the most useful information any of us have received from Orcon.

However, Orcon must do better. This site is frequented by geeks. We know and accept that bandwidth is a limited resource. We accept that there are contention ratios of bandwidth to users. We accept that upstream providers can have faults that aren't Orcons problems.

What we don't accept is grand deception. What we don't accept is misadvertising your bandwidth speeds. What we don't accept is misleading status reports or giving unrealistic times to resolve. What we don't accept is 'rebooting' your modem is going to someone double your bandwidth on the Southern Cross. What we don't accept is being treated like idiots or worse. What we don't accept is your organisation lying to us.

This forum has discussed your traffic management. It is FACT that Orcon were throttling .avi, .mp4, .flv http transfers.

Geeks believe in fairness. Geeks believe in justice. Geeks believe in respect. We are all entitled under the Consumer Guarantees Act to compensation. For those on the Homeline 20GB Promo, there should be no 12 month lock in.

For every 1 geek who uses Orcon, you pick up 5 others (their Friends and Family). For the fifty plus customers who look at this forum, probably a further 200 use Orcon because of personal recommendations.

It is a given that Orcon has been a very good ISP. But that support and respect is all but destroyed - simply because of Orcons lack of accurate and truthful communication with its customers.
