macuser: HTC ONE M7, Kingsland/Mt Eden/Eden Park

would be interesting to know how much data your burned doing that test, I would estimate somewhere between 100 - 150 Mbytes.... ouch.

SaltyNZ:
I believe non-2degrees-purchased LTE-capable Android handsets will get their updates later, as in, up to a few months, depending on the manufacturer. Could be wrong about that though.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE (i9305) which had the Vodafone Jellybean modem which was released in May of this year.
I drove through Penrose and Greenlane and only got H+, so I flashed a newer modem and went back through the same locations. This time they were all LTE.

If it is Samsung's responsibility to roll out the update, then I'd be waiting forever.

All well if you can get it.
My HTC One M8 still isn't showing me an option to select the LTE network.
Is there a software update being released to enable that?

bongojona: next up, battery endurance test vs 3G

You are gonna need a lot of data to burn?! (Does 2d jump from 3g 4g or stays at 4g even when data is not transmitted?) Or am I mistaken ...

Has anyone tried doing a speedtest off the Christchurch Snap speedtest server given they are 2degree's uplink?

never mind, found a way.
So for those who haven't:
*#*#4636#*#* and select WCDMA / LTE and all good.

As previous post, updates for non-2degrees handsets to come later.

This won't survive a reboot - you will need to do it every time the phone is restarted.

Yes, noted- a small drawback until 2D decide to kindly ask HTC to push the update ;-)

DarkShadow: What band(s) are 2degrees using?

Band 3 (1800mhz) is the primary band

You may see deployments on Band 7 (2600mhz) for extra capacity if they choose to use this.

And in the future Band 28 (700mhz)

This is similar to the other providers in NZ.

I got the 2Degrees pushed soft/firmware update to my S5 on Friday 20th so knew something was up! Had the beautiful 4G symbol on the phone tonight at the northern end of South-Western Motorway, but it appears not in Mangere Bridge. I want to try the "download booster" feature when in 4G+Wifi & will post pic if I can.
Funny story - I have a mate who was Country Manager for a BIG tech firm when 2Deg launched. This guy has picked correctly almost every trend in IT, general Tech, pretty much everything and is very successful.  He didn't pick 2Deg to survive however - I'm glad they did as they've been awesome for me for the last 5 years.

I was surprised to see 4G appear in my notification bar when I walked down to Queen St for lunch! I'm on an Australian Z2. The speeds on this are faster than my home network, with the upload 20x faster!
