Just downloaded the file again at 8.20pm. Took 3mins 11seconds. Worse than same time last night!

I looked at Bigpipe but they don't offer phone, so would have to get that from someone else. Prefer a one stop shop for fibre and phone, but if MR don't sort this out I may have to have another look.

Me too. I'm looking at the BigPipe $79/month 100/20 fibre + $10/month phone line through 2talk which would work out at $89 compared to the $99 we're paying though MyRepublic currently. The 2 months free deal for switching fibre customers is making me extra tempted.

There will be a new handover that we are migrating customers to, this will be able to handle our growing number of customers and It will be implemented and resolved on Tuesday night, 31 May.

I'm with Myrepublic and want to resign to get a better price, and drop home phone. However the latest June Truenet report absolutely slams the network performance. What steps are Myrepublic taking to improve performance, when can we expect improvement?

I thought I had a great deal when I got 6 months half price UFB however like other posts here Myrepublic in Christchurch is absolutely terrible in the evenings to the point where even Netflix has to buffer and forget about ever getting even 720p on You Tube that's unwatchable, I did a speed test on Tuesday night and was shocked at the results, I am not kidding I got just 1.9 mbs download!! I reset the modem and while it did improve a little (5mbs) that is still well below what my old copper gave me!! The only good thing about this is that my uploads are much faster than my downloads lol No I am not laughing really I am on a 24 month contract however if this continues I will pay the break penalty just to find a better faster company..... Pull up you socks Myrepublic and stop making excuses and just fix the problems that so many are having....

On a positive note I did a speed test this morning (Thursday) at 7:45am and got 81mbs down and that was with my daughter watching HD Netflix so there excuses of there must be something wrong at customers end just does not ring true, the truth is Myrepublic just do not have enough servers for high demand evenings...

Yeah that seems to be the problem. During the daytime the speeds are just fine. It's around 6pm to midnight every single night that the speeds drastically deteriorate. I think that points to the issue being on MyRepublic's end. The June 2016 TrueNet report really shows the difference between them and every other ISP too.

I agree. Daytime is fine but on my 200/200 plan in Christchurch downloads slow down dramatically to 8/200 in the evenings. Using speedtest.net to MyRepublic's speedtest server from a Gbit Ethernet connected PC. It's poor and worrying that MR appear to think there isn't a problem. All streaming services are buffer city right at the time I want to use them.

What's the early termination fee?

Its $299 however if they are not providing what they promise I am not sure they can charge this, just look at the advertising saying they buy more bandwidth than any other provider and will not slow down during peak times, well we all know that's untrue.

While I understand you'd prefer the pricing and flexibility of an ISP like BigPipe, some of the "main players" offer some ok value plans. Given my direct experience with Vodafone, I'd not count them as an option! But, for example, Spark's doing 100/20 for $90 (without landline) or $100 (with landline) for the first year (assuming it's a two year contract, with prices an additional $10 a month in the second year?).

Sure, a bit more than BigPipe (I think I pay $79 for 100/20 unlimited?) and it comes with a contract - but given MR's performance is clearly left wanting, personally I'd be happy to pay a bit more and actually have my internet provided by a company that seems to get most things right.

I sure wouldn't stick around to put up with such crud speeds - but this again reinforces the problems caused by so many being on fixed-term contracts. I sure hope more ISPs move away from this model, to one where their continued success is dependent on actually providing a good quality service, not as to whether they can dangle a big enough carrot to have people sign up for years. I'd be interested to know what the churn away from BigPipe is, given most customers seem to be happy with their service so really have no reason to leave, compared to the MRs of the world...

Spark have signed me for $80 month unlimited, 100/20 naked, free lightbox, 12 month term.

Is it worth challenging MR costs, in light of poor service, or will the terms and conditions preclude this?

Well I contacted MR and the support people either have there heads in the sand or have no clue whats going on, as they said I should not be getting 90mbs down at anytime on a notebook with wifi N yet I can get it, sent then a screenshot as requested. We will see how things go....

For those interested here goes a table of speed results done on peak time with MyRepublic over four days. The second table is speed tests taken from 1pm to 8pm every hour to capture how the speeds slow down over peaktime on one day. This is on a Gigatown connection that in theory should be getting 1000Mbps down.

I think from the results, it's pretty damn clear that the claims on their website such as "MyRepublic local network capacity is consistently more than what our customer base requires", "All this with no lag, no limits and no holding back", "broadband network has more than enough bandwidth for everyday use without compromising performance" and "We buy more bandwidth per user than any other national ISP. This means all your streaming and gaming never gets compromised during peak hours" are clear lies. I am in my fifth day with support trying to "resolve" this issue. So far they have blamed Chorus as being the issue, when that is a clear lie because other people who live close by on other ISPs are having no issues.

At this stage I am trying to get off contract without paying the early termination fee as they have clearly breached their side of the contract. Any advice on legal proceedings to take would be appreciated.
