and to L.A...

Can't blame this on wholesaler congestion as I'm unbundled :-( and this about the best I've had since Sunday. Even with these speeds I'm getting paused playback on YouTube and rubberbanding audio on Skype and the BBC.

It is really odd. Each time I do a speed test, the results are semi normal.

Tonight trying to play WOW we had latency that was the worse I've seen it.

It just disconnects. Hubby is now playing AoC - not mulitplayer - just against the comptuer. I'm bored, but still have TV - although I have so many quests I want to do in WOW.

I did a speed test to Dallas, Texas where my game server is located. And it was normal.

It just soooo sensitive.

I'm on ZeroShock FS UP/DOWN.

Here are my tests to all the local servers.

I would say a good test right?
Does this seem like exchange congestion to you? I ask because it doesn't seem that way to me!

So I try a speed test to Sydney, Los Angeles, Brisbane, Tokyo, Bermuda, all no go - meaning I cant even get a speed test out of them.

What? Quezon City and Jakarta are the only places that I can get a reliable test to (if you can call it that)?

I'm in the middle of tracking down the upstream links and peering partners for Orcon so I can do a direct speed test to the associated links.
So far I've come up with Verizon and Pacnet. I don't know if there are any others (I suspect WIX and APE for local stuff).
Anyone know?

Hi All,

I've just got off the phone with Orcon's Help desk complaining (like everyone else) about the international traffic as My gmail accounts will not go online in my mail client

I mentioned that I want to cancel my contact (I'm on ZEROSHOCK FS/128k) as I'm sick of the performance since switching to Orcon from Telecom. The guy on the phone says you haven't finished your 2 year contact, but if you change to one of the new plans, which don't have any terms you could then cancel Orcon at anytime and switch over to someone else - Great! I've now moved to the Purple 25GB FS/FS Plan. I'll see what happen in the next few days. I'm so tempted to move Xnet or Snap

the guy on the Help Desk also mentioned they can give a one time $20 credit off your bill if you are complaining about the service - sorry, I can't remember what he called it. give it a go

I have NEVER had an International speedtest surpass ~6MBit, I have never obtained a result higher than the theoretical ADSL1 speed limit (about 8MBit) and I'm on ADSL2+ on Orcon-controlled backhaul.

Wait,so are you saying, you were on their Zeroshock FS/128k 1/2 Year contract plans and if you change to the new plan and leave,you dont need to pay the disconnection fee?!

Firstly, sorry it has been a while since the last update. I am reading this thread closely, as are others here, it has just been a bit tricky finding a spare moment to reply. We have been pretty vigalant in keeping up with the support ticket queues, system staus page, and the other official channels for support (based in part on the feedback that you guys gave).

A couple of points that I would like to re-iterate:

1. ... are actually being caused by congestion at the exchange for those cusotmers on Telecom wholesale products.

I do understand your problems, and the frustration that you are experiencing. You can be assured that we are taking your feedback extremely seriously, and that I will be posting back here with any developments in terms of a solution as they come to light.

Isn't it incredibly coincidental that everyone who is having speed issues just happens to be on an exchange that has suddenly become 'congested'! I think you can come up with better excuses than that.

If you are taking it serious, why is there no mention of compensation? I would really like to see the wording of our agreements that say you can provide sub dialup speeds for two months and claim that it is broadband, and charge us accordingly.

As for the $20 offer mentioned by someone else, this is yet another insult. "We'll charge you $120 for two months broadband, provide sub dialup speeds, and give you $20 back as a gesture of good faith". Yeah, right!

BTW As for my current speed issues. How about the following:

1. Downloaded a Flash update file of 1492K. Started at 9:51PM, and it took 32 minutes to download.
2. Did a speedtest to far off Sydney. Download speed 54kb/s, upload speed 136kb/s

In both the above cases nothing else was being uploaded, downloaded or updated at the time.

And to add insult to injury, if others are to believed, another reason for this pathetic speed is the fact that I am on the Zeroshock plan, and I get shafted further down the queue because someone on a newer plan connects. Don't remember that little gem being in my terms and conditions when I signed up.

My speedtest does not correlate to my gaming experience. My gaming experience is absolute crap like hell. Playing warcraft 3 battlenet just drops all the time during peak time. But then i do the speedtest it seems to be fine. and PING is fine
I suspect that it is HTTP gets priority in traffic (very likely because speedtest is a download, which is HTTP) and gaming somehow gets stuffed up.

Thats the only explaination i can think of. Otherwise why would HTTP/browsing be ok, but gaming is not?

Yep - I don't understand it either. Hurts my head too much to think about it. Thank god there are things to watch on TV tonight - else we would have a very boring evening (due to not been able to play WOW)

Allegedly it's going to be "very soon". Whether that means this month, next month or not at all depends on Duncan or Thomas confirming the rumor. Until then, I would say treat it as rumor and nothing more.

Although I have also been told that Orcon are always adding capacity - we just don't get informed about it (and nor should we expect to IMHO).

So it's currently 17:39hrs and I did another test to see if I could actually run a successful test overseas.

Here what I get to Australia - Sydney:

United States - LA:

Locally:

I must be stupid or misinformed because to my mind, the only plausible answer is it's an international capacity issue. Not a exchange issue as discussed.

BTW: the best I could ever hope to achieve is 30.75KB/s according to the stats above. I was downloading at ~14KB/s a few minutes ago - which is half of that rate (granted it was to sourceforge and some sourceforge mirrors can be slow anyway

I just got connected to Snap. I couldn't be happier at the moment. I can watch youtube videos just fine and all my speeds are back to normal. The real test will come after 4pm though.
