Orcon come on and fix this crap service.

How the hell can one play with 5000 ping? We have crap pings to US as it is, but this is just pathetic

Things are seriously screwed when uptream rates exceed downstream rates.

Brandonrnz: Test to L.A

It's shocking to Atlantic Metro in LA - which usually gives 150ish pings, and 8+ Mb/s downstream.

They would have to increase available bandwidth by 20 or 30 times for evening performance to become "normal" again, and be considered acceptable broadband.

Its so bad tonight I decided to check the network status page (which no surprise says there is no issue), When I spotted this on the front page. Wonder how much five stars costs to buy?

Just signed my mum up to Orcon and got her broadband set up tonight. I'm now wondering if I should have! International totally crap! Does it work ok during the day? Hope they fix it soon otherwise will be asking for her money back and switching!

I must confess that it was this Canstar comparison which tipped me over to Orcon after 30+ years with grandma Telecom.

It's usually fine in the morning, and generally OK during the day. Speeds start going down after 3pm or 4pm.

With things as they are now, international traffic is rubbish during peak hour, youtube doesn't stream etc.

Local sites like trademe and nzherald are fine.

Well that's good at least. She's retired and spends most of her time online during the day.

Hope it doesn't take another month for Orcon to sort this.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

10:40pm, and still useless for anything except static sites and locally served pages. Might as well be back in the day of 256/128 or 128/128.

that's still faster than woosh, and lower latency than 3g.
