Yeah, TDM isn't going away any time soon. It's still the lowest common denominator.

Linux:

chevrolux:

So it will run on any wifi network?! I feel like this release will then get followed with... "can't talk to friends properly on 2degrees mobile. Speech quality is terrible"... when they are connected to a 10 year old router on a 5Mbps rural ADSL link.

@chevrolux how much bandwidth do you think a voice call would require? 5Mbp/s would have no issue you could half that speed and half it again and half it again and still maintain a voice call no problem

Linux

Fully aware of the bandwidth requirements of a voice call. But add latency and jitter to the mix and bad speech happens very easily. I guess the thing that would impact it more is the wifi environment.

Edit: Makes me think back to when our PBX vendor bought at Wifi cordless handsets - they were diabolical without perfect wireless coverage, i guess things have improved significantly but it's the same idea at the end of the day.

Other handsets will be rolled out in the coming months. iPhone, depending on certification (probably 5s and newer). Other Samsungs although I don't know the exact order or list of models, and longer term probably other vendors.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

The article says 2018 for some phones, I really hope iPhone doesn’t take that long! I get 1 bad of service at home so this will be a godsend whenever it arrives. Really liking the no extra charges while using this overseas though, that’s really cool.

iPhones have this already internationally... so it’s actually on 2D to send out a carrier update to enable it for us?

Even better... it looks like it’s already there, AND can use iCload like iMessages do? 😳

Wonder if that means your plans free minutes etc when overseas on wifi.

Also does this cover SMS or is it only voice?

No, there's an Apple carrier certification process you have to complete before they will let you add it to the carrier bundle. It is underway, but it takes time.

You have it already? Can you go to Settings, General, About and tell me what Carrier Version you have? Mine shows 2degrees 30.0

Mine is 31.0 (iPhone 7+ on iOS 11.2 Beta 4)

Likely just need to force a carrier settings update, but might also be because I’ve a Beta profile installed?

When you are overseas you will use whatever normal plan or pack allowances you would normally use while at home. If you are in a country that is covered by one of the roaming value packs, and you have a roaming value pack, then you will use that instead. Voice over Wifi transports SMS and MMS as well.
