One interesting thing about this - as a Slingshot customer, if I go into my account page, there doesn't seem to be any way to change to the gig plan (I'm currently on 100/20 unlimited data with phone line for ~$95).  But, if I go to the website as a new customer and look at the available services, the gigantic plan is there - for $105, I could get my current package at the unlimited speed.

I'm not sure if this is a website glitch or a deliberate policy - any Slingshot rep care to comment?

It's deliberate.

Hello. MyAccount is set up to allow you to change between speeds under your current contract. If you make the switch to Gigantic it comes with a new modem, capable of providing the higher speeds, and a 12-month term. To save any confusion, our sales team manage these changes over the phone. You can get them on 0800 89 6000 or flick us through a message here with your account details and one of the team will give you a bell. Cheers!

I just sent an email asking why we were just billed $35 more for the same product that is now $99.  Why are you billing the current customer at a higher rate for the same plan?

Hello. We haven't changed the plan pricing for customers under active contracts as many of these came with promotional offers. Great that you have already emailed the team. They will take a look, see what our options are and come back to you ASAP. Cheers

I switched to Gigantic nearly two weeks ago, and it's been pretty good. The only negative was the Netcomm NF18ACV that comes with it. The older Netcomm NF4V was very stable and never had to be re-started, but the new one dropped 5GHz literally at least once a day, and had *much* worse range on 2.4GHz (this seems to be a fairly well-known issue as this is also a common ISP-supplied modem for NBN in Australia). Anyway, I replaced the Netcomm with an ASUS RT-AC86U and I haven't had any more dropouts, and the whole house now has coverage.

Call up Spark, re-sign a 12 month contract and ask if they'll give you 3 months free.

will the Hawaiki cable bring better Pings to USA?

I'm not sure if moving USA closer to NZ is in scope.

I thought the new cable takes a shorter route.

My bad.

It does.

Looks a little longer to me than the Southern Cross Cable given the indirectness.

Yeah, the image on WP is not the clearest...    NZ to USA is around ~3,000 km longer via Australia.

Results of my upgrade so far:

 - new router not received by scheduled upgrade date

- upgrade programmed for today and was told to expect a short disconnection.  No internet connection when I got up this morning (0645), and despite several ONT and router resets and calls to Slingshot, still no connection 8 hours later.  Wife burning lots of mobile data while working at home today

Really sorry the new modem hasn't made it to you yet! I'll follow up with the team and see what we can do to get you sorted until it arrives. If you let me know when works for a callback i'll set that up. Cheers
