PhantomNVD: What does this setting mean then?

That's the one that means if you have an iPad on the same Wifi network, you can take calls on it too through the iPhone. Nothing to do with the VoWifi service.

PhantomNVD: iPhones have this already internationally... so it’s actually on 2D to send out a carrier update to enable it for us?

Even better... it looks like it’s already there, AND can use iCload like iMessages do? 😳

You have it already? Can you go to Settings, General, About and tell me what Carrier Version you have? Mine shows 2degrees 30.0

Mine is 31.0 (iPhone 7+ on iOS 11.2 Beta 4)

Likely just need to force a carrier settings update, but might also be because I’ve a Beta profile installed?

I’m on the 31.0 carrier update as well on a 6s and don’t have any WiFi-Calling options - where did you find it?

So 2degrees will be able to free up spectrum. As once wifi calling becomes more supported the load lessons on its towers. Then more capacity for Lte?

It doesn't work that way and that's not the purpose.

The goal isn't to replace existing coverage - it's to allow people to use their phone in an area with no coverage, which is why it's a technology that's primarily been deployed overseas by networks who have poor coverage or poorly performing networks.

This may be correct overseas, but I hardly think you can say 2degrees has poor coverage. Each network seems to have its strengths in different geographical areas, but overall much the same now.

It's safe to say that while the coverage and performance of 2d is not at the same level as Spark or Vodafone, they are still good. Compared to many overseas networks they're still world class.

I suspect part of 2d's business case for WiFi calling is that they can target customers and areas where they don't have coverage (and often neither do VF or Spark) and the only choice for customers has been Vodafone femtocells.

Bit of that, bit of international roaming rate relief. Lots of good reasons to have it.

The roaming thing is great. Will the carrier name change to reflect when it's enabled? I remember iPhone saying T-Mobile WiFi when in the U.S.

On the S8 the Wifi icon gets a little handset decoration, but it's subtle so you might not notice it unless you're looking. I haven't seen it on the iPhone.

EDIT: I am reliably informed that the iPhone will display '2degrees WiFi Calling' when it is active.

Just installed the iOS beta on iPhone X, have the 31.0 carrier version and no wifi calling options in phone other than the normal hand-off or ring on other devices.
Hopefully included whenever the next version of that is updated

tardtasticx: The article says 2018 for some phones, I really hope iPhone doesn’t take that long! I get 1 bad of service at home so this will be a godsend whenever it arrives. Really liking the no extra charges while using this overseas though, that’s really cool.

1 baD of service? That really must be terrible.

As to the expected availability of 2018, that really is only a month away. Good luck in getting something like this implemented of the business shutdown, holidaying public using their phones even more period.

Since the S8 and S8+ are enabled, when can we expect the Note 8? Soon I'd imagine, but just curious as to if there's any specific timeframe

Highly unlikely. You will need the official 2degrees firmware to have the settings pushed down.
