PenultimateHop:
(And what is G Pond? Some kind of passive networking over frogs?)
willnz: Hey Duncan,
Could you please clarify something for me -
I'm currently on the Orcon Friends & Family package (FS/FS 40GB), and would like to increase the data allowance. However, I'd like to keep the line with Telecom for now, so is it possible to have Orcon+ and still retain Telecom's homeline service?
Also, since the homeline provided by Orcon is essentially VoIP delivered as POTS, has any testing been done relating to monitorerd alarms, faxing, and the likes?
Cheers :)
willnz: Nokia Siemens Networks provides most, if not all, of their gear, from what I understand.
aether22: BTW, the freestyle purchasing of data blocks (even better non-expiring (or slow to expire) blocks, ohhhh ahhhh ;) would be very much appreciated here!
So since you asked put me as one strong vote down, thanks.

I'd also like to add my vote for freestyle purchasing of data blocks :)
duncanblair I am interested to hear if there is demand for the 'buy as you go' option - as we have considered this. So if this is something that people are interested in please let me know.
willnz:Radiotron: One question, for Duncanblair, while I'm not in area for LLU just yet (Te Atatu), I understand that Orcon have a resale agreement with Vodafone for mobile service (moderator, please move this post if I have the wrong forum). Having been a 021 customer since Bellsouth era, when will Orcon be able to offer a complete package: landline, ADSL and mobile, in one neat little wrapper? Sometime time ago, when 021 coverage was a bit rubbish in Te Atatu North, I looked at a move to Telecom, and canned the idea when I realised that the plans were essentially the same and that I was dealing with a duopoly that would not budge on price. Vodafone since improved the coverage, but I'm stuck with an old plan (Get 200) as I don't see a viable replacement at the magic $30 mark that gets me the off-peak airtime to any NZ number. Do Orcon plan to enter the mobile arena anytime soon, to compliment the new LLU (and not so LLU) plans?
Comments anyone?
Orcon Mobile is coming very soon - I believe the last official word was February, but it looks like it's been delayed again, presumably they are still negotiating the final details with Vodafone (and Paul Brislen might be trying to intimidate them out of the market with his ninjas and black helicopters)
EDIT:
While we're on the subject of Mobile (which is a little OT for this discussion, so if it goes much further probably wise to start a new thread), I know you're not able to disclose any plan information just yet Duncan, but are you able to comment on the market Orcon Mobile will be targeting? What I'm trying to get at is, will the plans be more "low cost" plans, or will they be aimed at the higher end of the market?
sbiddle: Where is Orcon's VoIP offering? While offering a POTS service is great what about those customers who want a true SIP service and use SIP phones rather than sticking with analogue phones? I thought that it was supposed to be launched at the same time?
Will a customer be able to receive 2 phone lines if they require them using the new LLU pots service? I'm guessing that this isn't going to be a service that will be available due to the high cost of the 2nd copper pair from Telecom.
duncanblair:
I think Mobile probably is a seperate topic, however I will just add that we are still working on our mobile offering. There has been some delay (obviously) on that February date. We ran into some problems with Vodafone which we are now working through. We hope to have these resolved in the near future.
Not prepared to comment on the type of plans that we planning to offer just yet sorry Will.

duncanblair:
We currently haven't defined a product for a second copper pair, to be honest we don't really expect demand for it. We will be addressing this with a different product.
Of course you could order one line with (for example) Gold+ and one with Purple+ giving you two broadband lines, one with POTs calling - however I guess that what you are describing is possibly one line for broadband and one line for voice (perhaps?).
Again though, if there are people who want this, let me know. Happy to hear this kind of feedback.
