Duncan, great to see you posting here.
Will your VOIP offering permit the connecting of any SIP device? I'm keen to find a reliable NZ-based VOIP solution that will enable me to connect using the Nokia VOIP stack offered in many of the higher end Symbian phones.

JohndNZ: Hey Duncan was wondering if Orcon will be offering say 5 email aliases(free) as the likes of xtra offer, as I like having the one for each family member & business, or will we be required to go the "Mailplus" email with your own domain?

richms: Are wholesaled plans still available on exchanges that you have unbundled? My sister is with orcon and needs more upstream, and the new plans only list the LLU ones when you put the phone number in. No interest in changing pstn to orcon since telecom freedom is saving about $90-150 a month in mobile calls.
JohndNZ: Awesome thanks for the reply guys - much appreciated
Duncan maybe thats another thing that could be made more obvious on the site as all i could see for more aliases was getting one through the MailPlus.
Cheers

~JohnD's modem stuff~

PenultimateHop:Are there any plans to offer ADSL2plus Annex M? This allows for up to 3.5Mbps upstream, and from what I can tell, isn't a problem under TNZ spectrum management.
I'm surprised neither Orcon or Vodafone have jumped on it...
Time to find a new industry!
webwat: ADSL2plus Annex M sounds good but not sure if it will be allowed by Telecom's specs due to potential for interferance with other customers, and Telstra also blocked it for a while in Australia until finally allowing it.
webwat: Also, can anyone advise if Orcon and ihug are both negotiating with the other ISPs? Im sure everyone will be keen on having some more flexible wholesale systems that can use Gigabit backhaul instead of Telecom's ATM network at 32kbps per user...

On those exchanges that we have unbundled we will no longer be offering new wholesale connections. Currently those existing Orcon customers inside unbundled exchange areas who are already on a wholesale plan can stay on it - but we are not signing up any new customers in these areas on Wholesale connections. Why? Because the LLU (+) plans are awesome :)

"Hi Oh no, looks like we have a problem with your Orcon Broadband request (order # 101152). We have tried to put through your request but it seems that broadband is really popular in your area so your exchange full. What are we talking about? Your exchange (the device that your phone and broadband gets connected to) is very similar to a car park. For example if you go down to the local supermarket and when you got there you found all the car parks where full. So to get a car park you would have to wait for a car park to become free (e.g. for a person to leave), or you would have to wait for the supermarket to upgrade the car park by building more parking spaces. What do parking lots and supermarkets have to do with your Broadband? Your exchange is similar to a parking lot in that it only has a certain number of ports (e.g. spaces) and when those ports are full you either have to wait for someone to cancel their broadband (leave), or for the exchange to be upgraded with more ports (e.g. more space built). The good news is that we are slightly more civilised than a car park and we have put you on a waiting list. What will happen is that we will monitor the exchange for you and when a port becomes free we will contact you. The bad news is that we are not sure when a space will open, but we will contact you when it does. So hold tight and as soon as a port is available we'll jump on it and get you connected! The Orcon Team"
So far, all my complaints and concerns with Orcon's service have been completely ignored.
This forum is my last resort in getting my frustrations heard by them.
After today I will no longer be an Orcon Customer.
Who would have thought that Orcon's service would end up being worse than Telecom's?
Why does Orcon advertise and force you into a service you cannot use?
