How many of you having issues are using the Fritzbox 7590 running software version 7.56?

 

This afternoon I swapped out my router to the  Fritzbox 7530AX and all issues are now gone!

 

 

And what would be the difference?

@freitasm The 7530AX updated to 7.57 tonight when I plugged it in so will plug in the 7590 and update it in the next few days and see if that fixes the issue

 

Edit: I might even roll it back to a previous version

@prat33k Which router are you using?

 

 

 

 

I am using a Sonicwall Firewall as Gateway with their Netgear Router as the Access Point. Interesting to see if this fixed your issue by just upgrading the firmware or it might have cleared some settings in the old router.

 

This somehow reminds of an issue when I used to work as support at a telco a few years back and there some sort of Malware would play with the settings on the Netcomm router and update the upstream DNS server. This would cause such issues to the customers and usually fix when we update the DNS/reset the router.

@prat33k I hard reset the 7590 and did not restore from a backup so it was a fresh setup

I saw teamviewer mentioned here earlier. Get it out of your work environment.

Are you paying for it? Are you ensuring it’s kept up to date? Do you have the ability to instantly turn it off from all devices if a new CVE is notified for a version you have in your environment?

Such tools are used for elevation/lateral movement by hackers. All it takes is one compromised machine and it’s game over for your whole network. There are a plethora of tools/scripts that they can check through in an instant for any software that you may have in a compromised machine and instantly wreck havoc. These tools are often not even detectable as malicious due to being standard command line commands.

Updated the Fritzbox 7590 OS from 7.56 to 7.57 and all issues with Android Apps / Teams and Microsoft authenticator resolved

@Linux I highly doubt it is router related given the problem is affecting those using different routers also. Almost smells like a path MTU issue. That update only fixes a vulnerability in the web interface, nothing else.

Or could be a 2D change and resetting the PPP / IPoE session by rebooting the router is moving you to a different IP pool or similar.

2degrees made no changes to my connection and I could switch between the 2 x routers 7590 & 7530ax and replicate the issue

I just went down the road and updated fritz OS on a 7560 and the end user could not believe the difference even using YouTube on his TV the main screen took ages to load now it is back to instant and we tested before and after the update

I read about the vulnerability fix as well but something has changed on the OS

For a website that's not working, what happens when you run an nslookup for it?

 

try the following:

 

     

  1. open your webbrowser, try to access onedrive.live.com (I'm assuming you can't and it fails)
  2. open a cmd prompt and run: ipconfig /flushdns
  3. without doing anything else, go right back to the webbrowser and hit f5 to refresh
  4. back on cmd prompt, run: ipconfig /displaydns
  5. copy-paste the result here

 

 

 

Ps, to get to that website your computer and (and router if it's your dns server) need to look up the following:

 

login.live.com -> login.msa.msidentity.com -> www.tm.lg.prod.aadmsa.trafficmanager.net  -> prdv4a.aadg.msidentity.com -> www.tm.v4.a.prd.aadg.akadns.net -> 20.190.167.148 

 

("->" is "resolves as")

 

If any of those fail to resolve you'll never get to that IP address. (Your results may vary.)

@MadEngineer the issue was with Android Apps not loading / Teams /  MS Authenticator

 

After update all working again

This 7.57 sounds promising! When I try to update though I get an error :(. Will check if someone from 2degrees can run this update on their end and report back once done.
