Every half hour or so, my phone 'drops off the network' (comes up "Selected network - 2 Degrees - not available). The signal strength bars are good (and it happens at work where there is a cell tower next door), but I have to search networks and re-register on 2 Degrees before I can use it again. Any suggestions?

Started happening after I entered the APN settings specified by 2 Degrees so that I could receive picts (MMS). I have since deleted the MMS settings, but still got this problem.

BTW the phone is a Samsung Galaxy mini 2.

No way it's related to APNs

Does issue happen with same SIM in another handset?

Bought the phone from Noel leeming, and it has been working great for about 4 months with my 2 degrees sim which was working great in my previous phone.

I will try my sim in my old handset and I have a vodafone sim that I will try in this phone, so I will be able to see if it is the phone, the sim or the combination of both.

You still have to tell us where you are. Your 2degrees signal may be weak and the phone tries to use the roaming network for example. Is roaming enabled on the handset?

I am in central Auckland, so I don't think it is a signal strength issue. I notice most when I am at work (Mt Wellington), where there is a cell tower next door (don't know if it is two degrees). Have tried with roaming on and off - same problem. Also as far as location is concerned, it was working fine there for the first 4 months.

This exact problem is happening to me too. I'm in Nelson, so far it's happens twice today and three times today.

As mentioned above please try the SIM in another phone, if poss, and check you have Data Roaming enabled and Network search on Dual mode (GSM/WCDMA).

It's possible the SIM has become faulty, if so we'll swap it over to a free blank one - http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/help/simcards.

I have noticed a similar thing, although not as frequently. It happens to me every few days.

On my iPhone the '2degrees' network name in the top left corner vanishes but the signal meter continues to show a good reading. All connectivity goes dead for a minute or so, then it rights itself and carries on as normal.

This very issue makes me nervous about buying 2degrees mobile broadband zone data. I use the 1GB allocation of national data that comes with my plan instead, with some confidence. My phone routinely switches back and forth between 2degrees and vodafone within the 2degrees "canopy" of central Dunedin, and I'd be concerned about a bill blow-out if I used mobile broadband data.

Yes I've noticed that too. Also with an iPhone on 2degrees.

UPDATE: I put a Vodafone sim (the one that came with the phone) in and it appeared to work ok. So I followed 2Degrees Care's suggestion above and got the sim replaced free of charge. All seems to work ok now. I had one of the older 2 Degrees sims which apparently can be troublesome on the newer phones.

Glad to be back on 2 Degrees - I had the Vodafone sim in for a day and had already had got 3 spam texts from Vodafone asking what I thought of their service and customer service. What the hell..

BTW Nicks and alasta: yours appears to be a different issue from the problem that I had - mine never reconnected on it's own - I had to search networks and manually re-register to get it working again.

Not going to give you my number John, but these were the texts:

"Based on your last store vistit, how likely r you to recommend vodafone to a friend blah bla rate from 0 to 10"

I hadn't even visit a store. Gave it a 0 simply because of the spam.

"Finally, we would welcome any comments about how we handled your vist to our store bla bla"

I hadn't even visit a store.

"We really appreciate your feedback. Thanks for helping Vodafone provide blah blah"

Are these kind of texts really necessary? If people have something to say they will give you unsolicited feedback - I guarantee it.

allanmnz If you don't want to pass over your mobile number that is your call and I can't force you to,

But if you are getting SMS when you never visited a store this is something we can look into but I can't with out a mobile number and yes they are necessary

I only had the Vodafone sim in temporarily - so it's not really an issue that needs to be resolved - thank you for the offer though.
