Hi All,
I just got SNAP installed - New Windsor Auckland.

SNAP has always been very quick at answering calls and incredibly helpful and knowledgeable and the transition was so smooth compared to the last company.

My connections speed is the same as my other two ISP's but my data throughput when I download is 25% higher, my ping times on speedtest have gone from 35ms or so to 12ms.

I am really really happy.

We are quick to bitch and moan when something goes wrong but I thought I would spread some good news.

Interesting ... have you noticed any difference with streaming video from overseas websites?

I'm thinking about switching to Snap to escape stuttery streaming and save $5/month - might not bother if the streaming isn't better. Also what have you noticed about browsing?

(I have seen the latest truenet report that would seem to indicate better streaming from Snap but average webpage load times)

Cool, I'm connecting to Snap VDSL tomorrow.

Telecom had been a good provider over the years and I thought I'd never change. But, I'm annoyed that Telecom somewhat misrepresented the UFB launch - and telecoms UFB plans were underwhelming.

Depending on my experience I will encourage others to join Snap too (being in IT I sometimes get asked for my recommendations from non-technical friends and family).

I dont normally watch strraming video - what websites do you want me to look at and I can report back.

Youtube is a lot better but that can be cached locally, I mainly download ISO files and a few other files as well.

After reading your experience I was hoping for the same. Signed up back on the 6th of April. Had not heard of a connection date yet so decided I would call tomorrow for a chase up as it was coming up to 8 days since they took payment. Before I could do that I got a few texts from my wife about 3pm telling me the internet is down.

Waited till after work to call Snap to check if the connection had been scheduled yet to find out if it was a case of the change being done without being informed or a fault with my old provider Telstraclear/Vodafone. So after a short 8 minutes on hold (I'm used to 30+) I found out that it had been scheduled, it was today and that they had forgotten to send out the new router. It's easier enough to reconfigure my current dsl router but I am currently 120Km away and not due home till Friday night so going to have to try and talk my wife through it. Thou that might have its own issue as she mentioned that she was unable to call me as the phone would not let her make toll calls.

The person on the phone was very apologetic thou so hopefully it will get better. I've never had a smooth switch over of ISP's and I guess this just continues the trend.

I'm having a bit of a nightmare with my snap new VDSL connection.

Not entirely Snaps fault but they have introduced unnecessary obstacles and costs and I'll put up a full review whenever I eventually do get connected. But, down 3 days so far and no end in sight. It could all be resolved tomorrow but Snap are insistent on following their procedures ahead of getting me connected ASAP.

Although, the guy I spoke with today said he would ask his boss if they can make an exception in my case which is the first of its type they have come across.

VDSL is a tricky beast from what i read in these forums... if everything's not done properly (internal wiring etc) it's a waste of time. And then people blame the ISP. So I can understand why they want to go step by step...

My internal wiring is perfect and my pace v5542 vdsl modem syncs at 48,000 down, 10,000 up. BUt, the fritzbox cannot sync vdsl so the most likely explanation is that my fritzbox is faulty.

So, the only problem is Snap who refused to send me a new modem for tomorrow. this leaves me without internet for nearly a week now.

While the Pace does sync OK, it does not have the vlan setting required by snap. I tried to enable using telnet but I cannot find any documentation online -- telecom have really locked the v5542 down.

It is just frustrating :)

Snap now have my 'faulty' vdsl modem and are saying the connection settings are set too high so they scaled them back a bit and are going to post the same modem back to me now.

I asked why they didn't get me to do this while I had the modem and he said the settings were in a difficult place (??? surely they could have talked me through this??).

We've tried 3 different vdsl modems on my line now-- only the fritzbox doesn't work. The other 2 synced really well.

These are the current connection stats from my Pace V5542, are these poor stats or does something look wrong?

The error is with my fritzbox which cannot sync vdsl on the same line. The actual messages on the fritzbox are...

Then...

"Faulty VDSL line "

Snap think the modem settings are set to be too fast. I have no idea .

Are you able to flash it to a stock/alternate firmware?
