Hi my names hayden

Early this year we moved to dunedin to be with our godson

Rang snap to see what we could get in terms of vdsl adsl or Fibre they said vdsl was the best for us . All good hooked up that good but this is where thing started going down hill we where only sync at 10 mbs down and 7 up and a alteration of 29.5 so not the best stats for vdsl so ask to be move back to adsl was told it was not be able to do so as in not in your area what !!!

So given the our Internet would play up like mad so would our land line we had told them that our godson that we live with has high level of medical needs and wanted to be put back to a standard pots base landline was told no had to stay on snap plus with no reason to this what so ever I was parperd to pay any ect or changes that this would involve and they where quite comfortable if the account was suspend or had an Issue I would be able to ring 1-1-1 at least I ask a bit what if the power goes down and told not our Issue . So at this stage it was more a pain then discrimination so ask to speak to a manager and got Jesse

She was so helpful to start off

Then I told her they need to help to get a pots phone line or I will have look else were the next Jesse ring me and say that you are to high need to our customers so we are discontinued you on the 26th of next mouth but you won't have to pay any etcs and that's it phone goes dead so I email her and got the same back plus we help transfer to a new isp so left it at that then went to get connected with slingshot and here today we still waiting coz they keep putting service order on our line to hold up slingshot so in Hine site is this discrimination and if so can they do this and what can be done because it not rite

Welcome to Geekzone.

Do you have a master filter/splitter installed in your home? Have you checked your wiring?

Businesses can provide services - or not - at their discretion. It doesn't sound like discrimination. And they aren't preventing your move to another provider - you have to contact Slingshot so THEY check with Chorus why the line is not being moved. It's between Slingshot and Chorus at this point, nothing to do with Snap anymore.

Wow that is hard to read. Maybe you should try proof reading it.

As I understand it snap decided they don't want to provide service to you?

As far as I know this is allowed, a shop can choose to deny you service if they wish. So I don't see why it would be any different for Snap.
There could be something different in the telecommunication laws but I doubt it.

It also sounds to me as you didn't understand exactly how VoIP works when compared to POTS and wanted an additional phone line?

Yes there is a master filter instilled but it been in stilled after the first main jack by the lazy chorus tech no new cable it looks like a dog's dinner
But it not the fact that they stopping our Internet it the fact that they said we to high needs if they said it was because they didn't feel that they could provide the service that we needed I would sweet I move but because she's said he's to high need I don't see that as rite but I get what your saying to

Do they not need to give a reason if requested?

We will only see one side of this story, because companies won't comment in public in such cases (privacy act, etc), but I suspect they already gave a reason: "too high maintenance"

Maybe it was a nice way of letting you off any early termination fees?

So tell me this if you had a kid that was "too high maintenance" would it not rip if they did this to you.

Is it not the same as saying you can't be a customer cos your gay or black ?

I think this is going nowhere.

I'm sorry but it is what it is. Companies have costs and will get to a point where providing a service is not feasible. They let you off without charging the early termination fee so you are free to join other provider.

Snap offer ADSL2+ with standard phone I don't see why they wouldn't let you change to that plan, especially if you were willing to pay early the termination contract break fee if required.

There must be more to this story....

Unlikely they said your kid is high maintenance, they would have been referring to you/your account. Did you pay your account on time? Do you have a bad credit rating?
