Ever since i moved to 2degrees from Telecom, i can no longer receive text messages. A bit of a pain security wise when it comes to 2 factor auth on the account.
The only suggestion 2degrees support could make was to remove the number from facebook and readd it. They stated that there is nothing they can do.

Given that Facebook is one of those internet giants that doesn't have real user support, is there anything I can do? I filed an issue but they don't respond to those. its obviously a SMS routing issue if its out of 2degrees control.

A friend on 2degrees using a ported (vodafone) number gets them fine on the other hand.
Oh and as for using facebook in the first place - its a glorified IM client to me, some people don't seem to use any other form of communication.

Edit: looks like I can't get them from Twitter either too. This is a pain for sms based 2factor auth when an off line code generator isn't available.

Not sure what platform you're on, but on iOS Facebook, if you click "More" on the bottom menu bar, and scroll down to "Code Generator" under the settings section, you can generate codes through there. Just a little work around, hopefully that works for what you're trying to do? Not sure if Twitter offers the same thing though, imagine they would.

Best of luck

I'm using effectively that, but set up with Google authenticator on android. Twitter doesn't have support for this, however does have push login approvals to the app.

Problem is, I'm trying to login to the app in the first place on my phone after needing to factory reset the phone. For this it requests a text message.

I can probably temporarily disable it so I can login in the first place, but it's a concern considering all these services that offer 2factor rely on using sms as a back up.

Example of Facebook messenger app expecting sms - though it doesn't rely on it. Same result with their "slingshot" photo sending app, which is impossible to login to the app at all to as a result

I had this same problem with Facebook before when moving form Telecom to Vodafone. Basically they use different traffic providers depending on which mobile company you are using.

The solution is to remove the existing number from your Facebook account, then add the same number again, this time with the new mobile operator.

I found that yesterday before posting, and tried it out.

But then on my phone:

Nothing...

edit: readding fixed twitter! Now just for facebook to get itself sorted...
edit2: confirmed that google, dropbox and microsoft can text my number fine. Its just facebook.

Probably should censor your awesome number, unless you want people be able to get ahold of you? Oh the horror. ;)

Edit: Smiley
