Hi,
Is anyone from Orcon able to:
Firstly confirm that Orcon is not yet able to provide a Fibre connection in the Sovereign Palms subdivision, Kaiapoi.
And any indication on when an agreement with Chorus will be in place so that Fibre services can be offered.

Slingshot are able to provide a fibre connection, but Orcon have a plan that seems to be a better fit for me.
I'm currently with WXC on a 20GB plan but looking for more data and the global mode offering seems worth a try

Have you asked Orcon? If so who? What did they say?

If Slingshot can provide service Id be surprised if Orcon cant.

Hi Fire Engine,
Yes, I spoke to the Orcon person who answered the phone, sorry I don't know who exactly.
I called 0800 564 687.
I had previously checked the online address checker.
Oddly the address checker states that ADSL and VDSL is available but fibre isn't. BUT there is no copper in the street so I knew the address checker wasn't correct.
I also thought it was odd that slingshot have an agreement and Orcon don't. That's why I just wanted to check one last time with an Orcon person here just to be sure before going ahead with a Slingshot or one of the others

The sovereign palms website currently says only wxc and snap are available but how accurate that is anyone's guess!
I guess you have to see how long away an agreement is between Orcon and chorus

Did the Orcon person say there wasnt an agreement with Chorus (Im not aware of any subdivision specific arrangements with Chorus that need to be made).

My first guess is this is simply a prequal error in the Chorus data we are using, did Orcon offer to do a manual prequal?

Hi Fire Engine
Yes, they said there wasn't yet an agreement with Chorus.
There was no discussion about prequal errors or doing a manual prequal check. We just discussed my address.
Do you think I Should I call up again? and if so any suggestion on who should I ask to speak with?

I live in this subdivision too - hello, neighbour! Fairly certain Orcon can't (won't) connect here. MyRepublic tell me they can. We're with Snap and happy for the most part.

My own investigations at the time we were looking for a provider, and from talking to other residents.

Hi neighbours :P

Also on snap there (other ISP option was opened up 2 days before we had to arrange connection before being locked to the only plans available). So far the annoying european ring that noone can fix is the only real qualm.

Do think we are in one of those hard-to-service areas, that aren't quite full UFB open as yet. UFF/FTTP

Chorus still only list WcX and Snap as the providers

Believe there was a few door knocks and calls mid-late last year to try find people almost out of their contract with WcX who had worked out the areas that had been established for 12/24 months

Given they still say we can get VDSL and adsl and even their own reps aren't sure it doesn't really bode well for anyone not already on WcX or snap :P

However there are also getting visits from Chorus techs to swap out ONTs in the area so anyones guess.

Well so far I'm getting a "UFB available" internally, just checking to see if there are any other inhibitors to Orcon providing service (I'm not aware of any, if this is direct onto Chorus I can't see why we wouldn't be able to...)

yep, understood, Chorus are suggesting we place an order to see if the connectivity exists, seems they can't tell us otherwise, no wonder the situation is confused...
