So I've changed plans from the legacy Snap 100/50MB to 2Degrees 200/200MB.

I don't know if this is a coincidence or if it mights actually be a problem with their network. I've had issues before after speed changes. It was no different this time around again as it was performing 100/200MB after the change, however 2Degrees fixed it straight away over the phone when I called. _b

National speed is fine, and so is to Australia. But US and EU seems to be crawling in comparison, with single threads at ~300KB/s and multi-thread max out at ~2MB/s.

A week before the plan change, I've been able to max out the line easily. I just find it hard to believe that a plan change will have caused a significant drop in speed.

I haven't called 2Degrees yet, but I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue? I'm hoping one of the old Snap forum ninjas (Ralph or quakeguy) can use their magic.

Thanks in advice.

Hi,

I too have noticed a massive slow down in all my international traffic on Snap/ 2degrees to an almost crawl.
I have had to disable my netflix HD quality setting as it kept changing from SD to HD and back again. Very annoying.
Hopefully this get resolved soon and is not a more deep rooted problem due to the change over of company branding.

I am also noticing a speed drop on international traffic here also after physically relocating the ONT to where I originally wanted it to be (before you ask, yes Chorus was involved with this move). After that was done local speedtest was as good as before, but some international traffic I used to get stuff from have suffered a 50% drop in speed as compared to before.

I am on the UFF portion of the UFB network aswell so looks like it not related to that seeing as you are with chorus.  Not that I suspected that to be a root cause of the issue.  But it is one thing crossed off the list of possible causes.

I have a rather limited selection of alternative ISP to go for on the UFF network with Bigpipe being my next choice but sadly not available here...
Its started to effect my overall use of the internet and should be deemed as a fault on the network.  International streaming is pretty average at best even youtube stutters and has problems...
Might have to look into moving ISP if this continues I have given it 2 weeks already.

Well things seems to be returned to normal after that recent planned maintenance outage.

Actually, I may have spoke too soon.  The ongoing upgrades seem to have an adverse effect on latency. I am in Auckland, normally there are very few hops and uni was only 2ms away, but look at this now:

traceroute to www.auckland.ac.nz (130.216.159.127), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets
1 fritz.box (192.168.178.1) 0.464 ms 0.459 ms 0.612 ms
2 20.17.69.111.static.snap.net.nz (111.69.17.20) 17.659 ms 18.102 ms 18.101 ms
3 24.17.69.111.static.snap.net.nz (111.69.17.24) 20.930 ms 21.237 ms 21.234 ms
4 snap.wix.nzix.net (202.7.1.240) 26.513 ms 26.520 ms 26.986 ms
5 reannz.wix.nzix.net (202.7.0.171) 26.993 ms 26.978 ms 26.972 ms
6 210.7.39.173 (210.7.39.173) 35.593 ms 33.863 ms 33.643 ms
7 210.7.39.174 (210.7.39.174) 35.095 ms 34.114 ms 34.090 ms
8 br-cpf1-north.net.auckland.ac.nz (130.216.95.106) 33.089 ms 33.918 ms 34.772 ms
9 cxj-alfa-430.net.auckland.ac.nz (130.216.95.122) 35.631 ms 33.497 ms 33.609 ms
10 * * *
11 www.auckland.ac.nz (130.216.159.127) 35.446 ms 34.560 ms 32.524 ms

Yeah that first hop latency is pretty bad. Maybe this might be fixed by tomorrow when the final scheduled UFB upgrades are done? Fingers crossed.

I'm having terrible international performance. Can't even stream Twitch without it lagging/buffering.

Gettings < 10Mbps to the US. On the 100/20 plan.

Same here. Twitch is lagging out on medium, pages are loading slowly, youtube videos crash out and recover at random. Its all a bit disappointing atm.

EDIT: On 100/20 as well in Auckland

 Thread necro...

So it seems this is happening again. I decided to wait about a week to see if the connection would fix itself. It has not.

I'm wondering if anyone else is having this issue, whether on Chorus network or others?

To re-cap, single threads seem to hover around 200KB/s, and multi-thread up to 1800KB/s. These are from filelocker websites, you know, for downloading linus ISOs undecided.

National and Australia is completely fine.

I would suggest you are not connected to a BNG in Auckland, with pure educated guess work I would say you are routing via Christchurch. The latency plus the handoff via Wellington Peering exchange would support this. I would recommend logging a fault with your service provider as that is extremely sub optimal routing if it is what it appears to be.

Hey SneakerPimps,

We can't reply to your message as you have Private Messages disabled your end.

Everything looks OK at our end, right profiles and connection is provisioned right. I see you aren't on one of our modems at the moment, can you give that a shot and see if it makes any difference to rule out a modem issue?

Cheers

Ralph ^JOB

Hi Ralph,

I don't know if anything was actually done, but it seems to have been fixed now. I know it wasn't like that early this morning though.

The modem I have is quite new, so I wouldn't have thought that was the issue, but any ways, it seems to be back to normal.

If it picks up again, let us know and we can reopen this.

Thanks
