I am with Flip for their copper based phone line, and have my ordinary ADSL broadband with them. In early July Spark apparently did some ' software upgrade ' to the exchange in Dunedin that cut all of the Flip customers (and apparently all Call Plus customers, the Chorus man told me) in my suburb OFF. We had no phone line at all, it was completely dead, but had internet access. Trying to get this fact through to the 'customer ?? 'service'?? staff at Flip was a nightmare. Their checks said everything was fine....
Fast forward to today, where I have again spoken to a 'service ?? technician because since the phone line was reinstated (after the complete cut off in July) I have had 'funny' interference noise on my phone line when ever I try to talk to someone. It is not a static noise. It is a humming noise sometimes, other times a whinny kind of noise. I also no longer get an indication on my caller display showing me when a blocked number is coming through. I have had caller display for at least 10 years. I know how it works. Up until very recently, when my friend, who has a blocked/private number would ring me, it would show up on my caller display as - a little line. That told me it was a private number who was calling. Sometimes a private number would come up as 'private' but not often. If I was out and missed the call, I could still tell if someone had phoned me as the little - line would show up along with the date and the time the call came through.
This no longer happens. I have no idea why. Nothing has changed at my end. My phones have not changed. The incredibly useless tech lady at Flip tried to tell me caller display only works with numbers that are not private, which from my at least ten years of experience is not correct.
Does anyone have any idea what might be going on?
Thanks in advance...
