Well I replayed my capture and heard DD 5.1 with crowd noises etc. I must have had some strange setting on with the receiver and to was getting stereo only.  It good enough but the level is way below AAC which is a bit strange.

The first non-rugby broadcast with 5.1 sound from TVNZ that I've noticed was Body of Proof last night. However it seems that was the last in the current series!

Are the delayed match's not in 5.1?

I'm watching the Japan v nz game and there is no 5.1.

I have 2 streams one English and one English (ad) both only have the option of aac 2.0

I'm getting DD5.1 on the NZ vs. JP replay at the moment.
Using Sony PS3 PlayTV.

What tuner are you using?

I suspect there may be some teething issues with the new TVNZ DD flags.
Some people seem to be getting DD5.1, others not.

I had that issue with my samsung tv. I think I ended up reseting the tv's speaker settings to get it to work.

I'm getting quite mixed results too. TV3 shows DD on my Samsung S7 LED TV, and my AMP via TV and MySky all the time. TV1/2 shows HE-AAC most of the time on TV (I think I've seen DD a few times), shows DD & DDPL on the AMP via the TV output and DD all the time via MySky.

The Mentalist is also being broadcast with 5.1 sound, at least it was last Monday.

According to:http://www.screenscribe.tv/channels/why-cleveland-and-tvnz-hd-arent-hotter/

TVNZ haven't done any 5.1 on shows/movies yet due to "technical difficulties". Only the rugby has been 5.1 and only on live games.

Obviously the Dolby light doesn't tell if it's 5.1 or not.

Is anyone sure that there have been true 5.1 shows?

I'm absolutely certain that some broadcasts from TVNZ other than rugby have had 5.1 sound - on the basis of hearing good surround effects from my rear speakers. I've certainly heard 5.1 sound on "Body of Proof" and "The Mentalist" both broadcast last Monday, 12th September.

As was mentioned earlier, TVNZ need to have source material with 5.1 audio content. They can broadcast stereo content in a 5.1 wrapper and your receiver will show as 5.1, even though only the front left and right will produce any sound. TV3 do this full time for instance on their Dolby audio stream.

Sounds like they are still having issues sending this out from recorded sources as it sounds similar to the Olympic games setup where they could pass on 5.1 information when it was a live feed, but not save it and rebroadcast it later.
