Someone from MSFT says at TGB details are coming during the CEDIA - which is not until September!

Perhaps time to start installing and configuring Media Portal?

See the behaviour [name removed, replaced] Microsoft is encouraging with their BS??  They only have themselves to blame...

The following message was posted on one of the threads on TGB by a Microsoft representative.  I was going to give my opinion on it, but given my warning above, I'm a bit scared to now.  So I'll just post without comment.

Wow.  This was an eye-opening thread... and not in a good way.  There is obviously a lot of frustration about this, but I don't agree with making personal attacks and (in my opinion) very hateful and harsh statements without any real information to back it up.  I was also a little surprised at being personally called out for not posting a response (along with Microsoft in general) to a post that wasn't even one day old.  Thanks guys, really... I feel the love.

That said, I'll refer back to my earlier post on this topic, and say that we will post more information before the official announcements at CEDIA.  You can expect this to include explanations to several of the issues brought up in this thread.  In the meantime, I'll see how much (if any) information I can comment on, and we'll share more details when possible.  However, I encourage future posts to be somewhat respectful, as I will not be responding to any questions within the flaming or overly anti-Microsoft posts.  We all care about the success of Media Center otherwise we wouldn't be here... so please keep that in mind when posting.

The warning was not about the comments you make on this topic.

Hmm, I'm surprised that no one here has really commented on the developments of Fiji.

Are there no other VMC users out there who are gagging to have native support for more than one tuner?

Much as I would love to have something new to comment on as far as I can see there is nothing new. Nothing for certain at least. I guess we just have to wait til Microsofts announcement at CEDIA (and hope it is good news!).

It will be a long 6 weeks or so.

there are so many people getting wound-up over on TheGreenButton over what they think is happening to the MCE releases when it appears that no-one seems to really know for sure. (except those under NDA)

rather than spread more FUD, i think its better to wait a couple of months and just see what happens.  we have had a taste of the beta and at least know that they have been working on the stuff we need here - now we will just have to wait and see if they release everything or strip the broken bits out first..

As much as I am P**ssed at MS for the whole OEM release (so far anyway). I am willing to wait and see what comes out in September. Truth be told I was surprised fiji was released so soon after going through beta/rc testing. I thought it would be by the end of the year and this is the information I gave to my wife with an expected ETA of Nov-Dec. She queries me on when we will be able to use VMC for TV again (heres hoping).

With that said I have a new HP Pavilion DV7 laptop on order (insurance for the last one that got nicked) and it comes with a built in Hybrid TV tuner so I expect to either see TV Pack 2008 installed on it or at least be released by HP in the not to distant future.

cheers

This won't give you H.264 DVB-T though.

Correct, I will carry on using DVB-Viewer for DVB-T. I just want to see what I get from the OEM.

So being the end of the month I was hoping to see a MS release/update
Has anyone tracked down an OEM version, does it exist, will NZ get it?  So many questions...
Nothing at techpac or MS about it.

Patience is a virtue.
And people who say that need to be thumped!

I'm far from patient either, and wanted to know what is happening yesterday.  But I'm going to sit it out as I'm sure MS will not limit their market like the rumours state.

In the meantime I'm planning the upgrade for my HTPC.  A fresh Vista install to get rid of all the crap I created from failed hacks to get Fiji like functionality.  And researching a second HDD to plug in at the same time.

Try doing something similar, and you might find that the time starts to speed past like a Monday morning at work after a 3 week vacation.
I want that damn upgrade now!!!!

I guess the question needs to really be asked - MS have not yet delivered a MCE solution (XP or Vista) that delivers anything close to the features available with 3rd party products. Why keep waiting?

Maybe instead of waiting for something that may not ever happen people should move on! :-)

Hasn't this question been answered many times now?  A lot of people agree that the interface and feel of Media Center is far superior to the 3rd party products you allude to, especially for the non technically minded in the household.

And I'm not prepared to take any more wrath than I currently do for a product that is more unstable and not as intuitive as what I've already had set up for the past few months.  That's for sure!
