SamT: xmltvnz @ reven.co.nz. I never could get Mmntalinc downloader to work for me but now I use Revens on both Mediaportal and Dvbviewer with no issues.

Cheers

My program only downloads the xml file and as hads has said there have been no changes made to the xml file.
Something has probably changed in your setup (have you renamed any of the stations after you did the mapping?)

I suppose using xmltvnz will rule out the source being the problem. SamT, do you still use importxmltv to import the epg data for DVBviewer, or something else?

No I havent. I have since cleared the channelist, rescanned and mapped everything again, with no luck. It is stange how only 3 & C4 are the only ones effected. I wouldnt have even mentioned anything if a couple of others hadnt experienced exactly the same thing so something is up somewhere.

FreddyK your experience is exactly the same as mine. I hadnt changed anything beforehand but if I schedule an update twice a day Im fine for EPG so its not a major

So do all shows still get displayed in epg of dvbviewer for you mentalinc?

I just tested it and I too are unable to get a successful import to dvbviewer.
Having said that the file works fine with mediaportal (what i now use).

Im not to sure what can be done to solve the problem, anyone tried a clean install on a new OS install?

It randomly imports bits and pieces of the epg over the week.

I do the same, but have encountered issues with scheduling a recording that gets dropped. I have noticed too, that you dont even need to download the epg source again as simply importing the same xml data causes the epg to populate once more.

The trouble seems to be DVBviewer itself. After an epg update, all the data is where it should be and the epg looks just fine, but after a certain time, DVBviewer seems to drop data for no apparent reason. Im still pointing my finger at something in the source that has changed (especially considering the effected channels, 3 & C4 belong to the same network). Im going to try using reven's page scrapper for the source data and see what that does. Will let you know.

"Okay, I'll answer my own question in case it helps any other frustrated DVB Viewer Users.  You can turn off DVB EPG Downloads under the settings -  Hardware tab.  What I hadn't done is after turning off the DVB EPG is reimport the XMLTV file to DVB Viewer. Now it works again and no more full stops after 2 hours bof listings  - I now have a weeks worth again !! "

good work burtz

Yes Freddyk I am using Importxmlt for Dvbviewer. I just run it manually every few days sweet as. I use mediaportal generally for recording because it does'nt have to be running and it as a better epg program and use Dvbviewer for watching because on my setup it seems to generate a better picture. Sorry off topic

Cheers mentalinc, Im glad somebody reads all the posts. I remember seeing that thread soon after it was posted, but never actually read it since it didnt look all that interesting ... wish I had of though :)

Disabling the EPG Download in DVBviewer sure did fix the problem, thanks burtz. It wouldnt have been a problem if Mediaworks had'nt been putting "fullstops" to pad out the data. Heres hoping they fill it out with useful information soon.

I only use DVBviwer to watch TV, and use VMC for everything else and with Freitasm's DVBviewer VMC tweak, it all works very well.

DVBviewer has a TV server, and kicks in when DVBviewer closes, and takes care of any scheduled recordings. The only disadvantage to this is that recordings get split if you close down/startup DVBviewer (ie. DVBviewer stops recording and the TV service starts recording), but its no big deal.

You could leave dvbviewer open and just load a small blank audio file.

Hey there,
A new version is nice and all, but the automatic updating feature is rather frustrating. I have a scheduled task setup to do the epg, and suddenly firefox opens because there is a new version. This makes the program incredibly unsuitable for a dedicated HTPC only setup, since i had to go find a mouse to plugin to close the browser.
Even a command line switch to disable updating would be useful.

Hey

I don’t like the idea of disabling the update notification altogether as users will miss out on update notifications and therefore any features/fixes the new update has.

Can you think of another way to make the notification more HTPC friendly?

Another option is that I look at having the program download and install the updates without the end user being notified or needing to interact.

Basically it would work like this
Check if there is a new version,
if there is a new version: download the update file, replace the .exe file with the new version.

How comfortable do people feel with that approach?

- Maybe I could add a command switch.
Notify or auto update/download.

That way users can be told there is a new version and they update themselves. Or can just have the latest version downloaded automatically.

(I don’t really want an ignore update notification option as you miss out on the new features and fixes.)
