I have a friend who just bought one, and upon turning it on and setting it up, it says there's no disc space left. I think it can't find the hard drive. Is it a dud unit?
@MagicTV: Simple changes to FastForwarding would improve things a lot.
In general the unit is great, but is let down by some usability problems with FF. Hopefully these suggestions can trigger more contribution by other members, and find their way into a future release.
1. The behaviour of the FF button is frustrating and slow. You need to press the button many times to get to the decent FF speed of 32x, and if you press it once more by mistake it rolls around to start slow again. Suggest removing the number of options - such as 2x, 8x, 32x and once 32x is reached, staying on 32x on pressing FF again.
2. Now that we're going FF 32x it's hard to stop at the right place. a) Improve the screen updates so that more regular images are shown and it's easier to see where you're up to. b) Whenever Play is pressed following FF 32x, go back from the position where the button was pressed in proportion to the speed. Ie. Human reaction times aren't super quick at 32x. It's a great help after seeing the scene you want and taking say 1sec to press the button, MagicTV jumps back say 32sec from that position to better match the user's intent.
3. Give an ability to configure the Jump Forward button. To go forward or back in units of 30sec (or 1 min) would be very helpful.
+1 for comments regarding the Fast Forward/Rewind performance. Maybe give the green right arrow button a jump forward 30 secs and green left arrow back 10 secs
I think the 10 min jump foward/back is a little large - maybe make it 5 mins or able to be set on the setup menu.
Hi Guys , Im a newbie here but own two magic tv PVR's I think they are great but I have a couple of questions for you all .....
1/ I have upgraded to 3.12 but the firmware install is saying its 3.11 ... the downloaded file said its 3.12 and I have upgraded both units with the new firmware. both sets found a new version { previous was 3.11 } has anyone else encountered this ?
2/ I too have noticed that the audio level between my magic tv box and watching normal tv is a lot lower level eg watching a prog/recorded prog I set the volume level ... then I turn the magic tv box off and go back to normal tv Im scrambling for the remote to turn the tv down .is this a new issue with the new firmware ???
I should point out for the audio picture input Im using Componant video with audio I plan on switching to HDMI soon but Im wondering if this audio issue is related to only componant/composite out and not HDMI .
I too would love to see a website access like Tivo to view all the recordings and make changes , I also 2nd the fast forward improvements .
as a side note before that bond and bond special of $560 I was able to get mine off a trade me seller for $640 including postage which wasnt a too bad price given when I bought mine they were $799

I made the mistake of having both 3.11 and 3.12 firmware versions on my flash drive when i tried to install the latter. This could be your problem too. Try removing 3.11 or older firmware from your usb device,then try again. It worked for me. Might be an idea to save the older version somewhere on your hard drive though.Hope this helps.
On the fast forward issue...I agree with all the other comments. It is frustratingly slow and erratic when compared to an HDD DVD recorder. Hopefully our posts will be viewed by the guys at Magic tv,and a firmware release will fix this problem.
Thanks kiwidownunder for the advice I had wondered about having the 3.11 on my flash drive as well .... will try it now , this audio thing still has me beaten .... hmmm will see if it goes away with the firmware update .
Thanks again , yes changing the audio to "enhanced has helped but its still down on standard tv I guess an upgrade might fix it .... is this only on componant/coposite out ??? or does it affect HDMI as well ?
