only the select few people on here are the only ones having this issue.

Wouldn't that be the point of the thread.

Have the issues reported been addressed.  There seems to be a common thread of audio loss for example, and this looks to have been reported quite a while ago, a resolution claimed, but people are still experiencing the issue.

The unit looks good, I was very interested, but the issues seem to suggest buggy software, so I'm scared away, as are others by the looks of it.

it is the point, but i think what josh is getting at is 2 fold, not everyone is experiencing the issue, and as everyone/most people are on the same firmware it seems to me to either be an issue with the hardware or something not liking something in that persons setup.

granted its hard for them to address those types of issues as its not affecting everyone.

second point is is a discussion about the box, not about alternatives, want to discuss alternatives start a new thread like josh suggested.

We set up 20-30 units of each brand with the same firmware and some with the previous firmware which gets tested over a intense period non-stop, they are all monitored, I also have a few set up at mine to test and I also have my mother up North who looks at issues from a end user perceptive,

If the issue is still affecting your unit, I do recommend returning it back to the retailer.

Josh, are they all connected to TV's? any of them connected though amps? connected via AV/RGB, wifi and wired.

basically what im asking is how varied is the test setup or are they all simple/the same.

JimmyH:

I need a new satellite box for an elderly relative, with an STB on its last legs that keeps failing. Will buy something for them this weekend.

I was considering the S8200. Based on this thread, I will now discard this option.

Interested in views on other options, given that it needs to be:

  1. as simple as possible for a non-techy elderly person to cope with
  2. reliable and easy to use
  3. preferable, but not essential, to have a recording option.

Emphasis on point (1), given that I will be the tech support and don't want to be called at work 2-3 times a day over silly things.

I have a S8200 and I am very happy with it. It has the odd hickup but otherwise it is fantastic.

All are connected to TV screens, about 15" in size each with sound. mixture of all, they get tested with a different set up, but we make sure all are tested. Hard Drives are also tested with new firmware. We also get live feeds in from Australia Freeview so we test and make sure that the Australians are dealt with like NZ.

After the last firmware update most of my issues have been resolved.

I was lucky as I haven't had any audio issues.

It still has a few hiccups, it sometimes restarts in the middle of a program and sometimes the timeshift mysteriously turns itself off but all in all it's much better and is now usable.

While I wouldn't recommend the unit to anyone, it does pretty much what it's supposed to.

rodimus: I've got a customer who's been very patient with this unit now coming up with "media not connected" any suggestions ?

Ask customer to install new firmware: v 1.20 here or on the OND server http://www.dishtv.co.nz/images/stories/Firmware/DishTV_S8200-Firmware-V1.20.zip

If still having Media Not Connected then try a Factory Reset, inform customer that they will need to rebook shows from the EPG.

If still having same error, please call our phone line as we might need to look at the HDD unit.

Sounds like a dead Hard Disk. I had the Mother in Laws S7090 (previous model) do the same thing.

Yes sounds like the Hard Drive has a fault, this will need to be returned however they will need to contact the call centre to do this as I am not authorised to do this myself (Unfortunately) if they would like me to email the team on their behalf please provide serials and a home address and email. Private Message to reply.

Thanks

Is there any way to turn off Freeview Plus, or to stop the popup from showing on the side of the screen?
