jarrodasmith: Hey Satch, I can sorta understand your original problem if your system was getting 1 epg from freeview and 1 from sky... Any ideas why my system has the same issue when all i have is freeview?  I don't really understand how it all works but wondered if it has anything to do with the fact that we pick up some of the freeview channels on one transponder freq (12483) and some on the other (12456) maybe the EPG changes when the tuner swaps to the other transponder freq to begin recording ???

To be honest, I don't really understand how it all works either!  But with the help of some good people here it makes it easier.

I'm guessing here, but I would have thought that the EPG for a certain channel only exists in the transponder the channel sits on?

I really wish I could just download the guide from one of the internet sources, but I believe that this is no longer possible with the TV Pack?

Please check here http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=84&topicid=25658&page_no=1#160746 for a development I've had on the issue of the guide updating only when watching the channel involved.

Finally got TV pack working, had to change to a Nova-S Plus card. I cannot get the Win Nova-S USB2 to work, has anyone had any luck with one of these? I have read about people having issuse with the program guide playing up, what is the problem there? I have not had any issuses with it so far.

For me the Guide itself works well, the only issue is that if you try and record set scheduled recorings from it the results are at best intermittent. Generally I get messages in the history saying something like "Recording of the Simpsons began as scheduled on 29/082008 5:00:00 p.m. and stopped early on 29/08/2008 5:00:04 p.m. when a conflicting recording was scheduled". There are definitly no conflicts ! If you add a manual recording by choosing channel date and time (rather than choosing it from the guide) it works fine.

How do you set up a "manual record"?? I have been wanting to do this with trackside to record a race.

Go to recorded TV, then select the option at the top of the page (something like 'Record TV').  Then you will get a list of options to record off the guide or select a manual time.

Has anyone got the scheduled recording working (without sky and dvbbridge)

and... can someone explain the DVBBridge thing and what/how it works.  I have dvbviewer working a treat, but the Mrs prefers MCE.  I am keen to update with the TV Pack but if I can not schedule recordings via the EPG it is kinda pointless

I have just set up a HTPC with a Nova-S Plus for Freeview.
I tried to set a recording from the EPG but had to have a couple of goes at it.
The first time I selected the program I wanted to record it came up with the normal screen and asked if I wanted to record once or whatever - I selected the default once but then it changed to the Manual record screen as though it had lost the EPG.
I cancelled out and tried again from the EPG and it worked properly the second time. - After selecting just to record once it goes back to the EPG and the show now has the red dot on it.
I'll see in a few days if the recording actually works as I am in Auckland for 'till Thursday.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

Since no one else has answered this yet, I'll give it a go with my somewhat limited knowledge in this area (but I am using DVBSBridge and have learnt pretty much everything from trial and error and people here at GZ).  Others will be sure to add where I've gone wrong or left out detail!

DVBSBridge takes a feed from a DVB program (such as DVBViewer) and delivers it to Media Center.  It shows itself in Media Center as a virtual DVB-T tuner.  People here are using it to feed a decrypted Sky signal from a DVB program to Media Center (or other similar software - not too sure about this).  To get it working correctly, you need a smartcard reader which will read your legal subscription Sky card, and a couple of other utilities to help to decode the Sky signal.

This will not allow you to view Freeview HD in Media Center though.

Check out the 'Sky without a STB' thread in the HTPC forum for more details on this.

Is it true that TV Pack now does recordings in a new format?  And that format is unknown to Media Player or non-TV Pack MCEs?  What about MCE Extenders?

Am I missing something here or are MS really trying to make this product fail? Of course until Windows 7 when everyone will have to upgrade to stay compatible.

Have not tried playing recorded TV in other apps but you may need to install these:

PlayReady is what the first link is for haven't installed any of these yet though

I believe that those are required fixes for the TV Pack to even run (why they're not part of the TV Pack is anybody's guess).  The issue is that Vista MCE used to record in .dvr-ms which was playable via Media Player. So I could take TV recordings away with me on my laptop and watch them.  The 'new' TV Pack changes Vista MCE so that recordings are in .wtv format. [Maybe they should have been .wtf - .what the f..k] The only way to watch these recordings is through a Vista MCE with TV Pack - which is only available to large OEMs.

My issue is that if I purchase one of these 'new' Media Center PC's then I won't even be able to watch the recordings on my current Vista Ultimate PC and I'm also assuming that they won't play on a Media Center Extender like the Linksys DMA2100.

I'll have to wait until Windows 7 so that I can upgrade my Vista PC to be compatible again, and probably purchase a new type of Extender.

I have installed the TV Pack on my HTPC and can play the new recorded tv format no problem on my XBOX 360. I cannot play them on my laptop at the moment. Perhaps Microsoft will do an update for WMPlayer and non-TVPack MCE soon after Sept 3 (which I assume is still the official release date for the TV Pack)
