Jaxson: You know TVNZ could take the opportunity to step up and be the first to offer 5.1 via satellite.....

Lack of bandwidth?? but agree would be a good step-up
Also surprises me TV3 is not in 5.1 on Sky??

Great news! Does anyone know which shows are likely to be in 5.1? All of the ones in HD now or just some of them?

If you're talking about TVNZ then all the shows they get from the US they broadcast in HD are in 5.1 - it's just that they don't currently broadcast 5.1 audio.

TVNZ broadcasts 5.1 audio for all HD shows they source from the US. But they have been known to be cheap and purchase SD versions of shows such as House.

TVNZ doesn't broadcast 5.1 hence the topic of this thread "Where's the Dolby 5.1 TVNZ?"

HD buffs frustrated by TVNZ’s stereo transmissions will be pleased to learn the broadcaster will soon replace them with Dolby Digital.

On the eve of TV2 premiering in HD the latest talent quest hit, The Voice, TVNZ has confirmed an announcement about the switchover to 5.1 audio is imminent.

TV3 began broadcasting in 5.1 as soon as it went HD but TVNZ has postponed the transition until its digital infrastructural overhaul was complete.

At the start of the year it indicated 5.1 broadcasts would be in place by mid-year, so hopefully viewers will be surrounded by sound within the next month or so.

The upgrade would be timely given the upsurge in HD content on TV2, with newcomers like Nikita and The Voice, and new seasons of previously SD series in HD, like Supernatural and Chuck.

If they are HD and come from the US then they're in DD5.1 along with some British programs  but not all..

wilt64: I have also heard through the grapevine 3News will be going HD soon which will give that leading edge over One News!!!

Oh wow, maybe that is why 3News have just changed all their graphics/theme (maybe into HD/5.1)?  Can't wait to see the Brown Jesus in HD and hear Hillary's snorting in 5.1!  :)

The Voice series has now started. I didn't see it. As far as I can tell, there is no DD 5.1 on TVNZ though.
