Yeah, i'm just saying it will be cool to map all the functions to a remote where they can be assigned to properly shaped/labelled buttons. Wont give any more features, will just lay them out more instinctively.

PlayTV works now via PS3 game controller or bluray remote. Bluray remote has most of the buttons laid out properly, like pause button etc all works, you just have to select start I think it is to record, and L1 and R1 for change channels etc.

I'm picking up the harmony to PS3 adaptor later this week and I'll have a play then.

500Gb hard drive arrived this morning.

And I am saying you will be able to, aren't I? Is there some reason I'm missing that you can't put the functions on whatever buttons you want on the Harmony. I'm not being silly here, I legitimately want to know if there's something I'm missing.

Do you mean because the configuration you want for DVD/BD/CD playback may be different to PlayTV? I guess you can have a different activity for it and lay the buttons out differently, even though they use the same equipment.

I'm keen now having heard it might work on a US PS3 but I can't any vendor on Amazon UK who is selling it at a decent price and/or will ship here. I didn't see in Amazon OZ either.

Just collected my 500GB drive, installing it soon.

I also get 45 seconds to watching TV from powering the PS3 on, however mine exits to the PS3 menu immediately, rather than the 15s that Jaxson is having.

Jeez man we're talking about the same thing.

I'm hoping it works that way too. However, I don't have the harmony/PS3 adaptor yet, so I don't know how it works in the harmony software. I assume it works that way, I was simply asking if it does work that way from anyone else who's actually has one.

I'm doing the 500Gb drive this evening too. I'll confirm that exit time tonight too. I'm on the latest firmware for PS3 and PlayTV.

Man, so easy to install the drive. Simply use the inbuilt backup utility to keep your save game/DLC, watch a 2 min video on youtube showing you how, once the backups done it takes less than 10mins (not including the restore). Be careful with the screws though, they're done quite hard and made from a material softer than the screwdriver head (or at least mine) so it would be easy to strip out the fitting in head for the screwdriver. I saw someone recommending using a pair of needle nose pliers to loosen them first.

What 500gb HDD did you get?
I've been meaning to upgrade for a while, no need yet as I have a 1TB HDD living in the lounge but thinking of getting the Australian PlayTV come the end of the month and an internal HDD is probably the ticket.

Western Digital one, seemed the one people were most happy with on the net.

I was surprised that the Seagate ones were very poorly rated, they used to be the gold standard, but seems times have changed. The salesman at PB Tech was aware of their quality downturn too...

You may need more external drives for when you need to clear the PlayTV library though - those HD recordings take up some space!

...if you say set the manual timer to record the 6pm news, will it turn on at 5:59pm to start recording? or do you have to set the timer a minute early?

did any of you guys have a chance to try this out?

I set a manual recording last night and it started at the time I selected, rather than a minute before hand, so for manual recordings at least you'd need to subtract a minute. Not sure whether setting them by the EPG (limited to a few hours mind) will start them as the program starts - Jaxson?
