InspectorGadget:

I will echo an earlier comment, if it can't keep time then how can it time record  :(

No new firmware yet but date I was given at time of purchase was 16 :p

"Freeview HD Receiver PVR"

I did not get my free "High Gain Antenna" either but I am guessing he forgot to change auction images, as text did not mention the antenna.

He told us the 15th of Jan on the 2nd.  You got the 16th of Jan on the 5th.  Between then and a few days ago his website was changed to before Feb 09  http://www.satlinknz.co.nz/extra_terrestrial.html (bottom of the page)

Welcome to our world, and don't hold your breath.

Even that may be overselling - the website actually says "hopeful (sic) by Feb09". Lots of "hopeful" may indeed be required, going by the numerous earlier dates not being met...

Pete seems strangely absent from this thread recently......I just hope for your guys sake that the reason he isn't here is because he is working soooo hard on sorting out all the issues and delivering the PVR function

Perhaps he's having timeout for the racist comments he made earlier in the thread?

It seems a shame.  If he had delivered, then he would probably have a small army of people promoting his product instead of doing the opposite.

It looks like this is where the ET box comes from:
http://www.szdehoo.com/en/products/products_view.asp?id=146

The page does mention PVR capabilities.

Buttonmash: MrWestie that appears to be a VHF Antenna, and Freeview is broadcast on UHF which could explain the signal quality issue.

Or not...  I have a high gain UHF antenna and the transmitter appears closer then that and still have pixelation, TV Audio drop out issues.

No,he has a PL10 underneath that S*y used to install around 15 years ago.
Mind you it should be braced Cool

Isn't he just an importer? In which case it's most likely out of his control.

This was the point I was trying to make a few days ago....but people will always prefer to have somebody local to blame. The complication is that this Pete person has phrased things in such a way that he appears to want to take ownership of the product....eg "we will delver..." rather than "they say they will deliver". SO kinda brought it on himself.

Just because it's out of his control doesn't mean he shouldn't take responsibility.  He's the one bringing them in to NZ, therefore he is the one to blame.  Not the overseas manufacturer, nobody bought their ETs off them.

If you look back at Pete's posts he never actually introduces himself or declares his relationship with ET. He just writes in the way you mention and it was left to us to figure it out.

Well, what he's to 'blame' for is making promises that were beyond his control to keep.

You'll notice the Freeview Shop themselves sell this unit but make no such mention of upcoming PVR. They seem to be taking what I would call a more traditional retailers position of only offering it once 1. It's delivered, and 2. It has been tested to work in NZ conditions.

Saying that he is just an importer is a bit of a cop out.  Its like saying Ford or Nissan just import cars and sell them.

The simple fact of the matter is this:
Under the Consumer Guarantees Act, if Pete imports something and sells it to consumers, Pete immediately become responsible for repairs and maintainence for a reasonable period of time (and that's not just for one year either).  END OF STORY.

Likewise if Pete bought and resold the units in New Zealand.  I bought this from Pete, and any repairs and maintainence that the unit requires are the responsibility of Pete to sort out.

If Pete made representations about a PVR update being available, and it's capabilities and your relied apon this when purchasing, it is Pete's responsibility to deliver

  That's the law.

My rights and expectations for service are with Pete, not with the factory on China.

Pete isn't here because Rex Radio & TV helped him to see the light. He now realises he is importing a substandard product. He clearly doesn't have much technical knowhow, but is a salesman who was huffing, puffing and blustering until he learnt some actual facts about just what he was selling.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that the Freeview Shop (www.freeviewshop.co.nz) has any connection with the Freeview Consortium - they don't. You won't find the the Freeview Shop in the list of retailers on the official Freeview website Freeview - Find a Retailer or Installer

Ya I know, sorry if it sounded like I meant they were 'freeview'. What I mean is they are a major retailer, also stocking the ET (the only other one other than the rats and mice on Trademe?) and they are not making an issue of the upcoming feature that they themselves have no control over.

Imagine any other retailer promising a product improvement from, say, Sony. It wouldn't happen. They would all say "Sony say...".

Gadget, we are in complete agreement about Pete's obligations regarding the units he has sold. Given the descriptions people have given of issues, I can't believe people still have them.

There are some computer retailers selling the ET box as well. You can get an ET for $235.13 inc gst which also includes free nationwide shipping from QMB computers (qmb.co.nz) in Auckland - Not that I would recommend the box to anyone from my own experience - QMB are good though.

Have a look on www.pricespy.co.nz and search for freeview. (Its a great site for computer gear pricing anyway).
