I'm sorry but allowing this trader to continue to use geekzone is no longer becoming acceptable.

His product is faulty (hence the nearly 60 page thread)
People are having a lot of problems - even after its been report to have been fixed.

It's starting to make geekzone look bad allowing it to continue.

"But I have a ET!!" I need somewhere to get support I hear you cry.
Your support is the supplier and in this case they have their own website, if you think the product is not "fit for its purpose" return the product, and learn your lesson about buying a cheap product (you get what you pay for).

In short lock the thread if people have issues contact the supplier. The supplier has continually failed to provide the features that were promised (PVR), the fixes delivered don’t work correctly. If a major manufacturer e.g. Sony, Panasonic etc released this they would be crucified.

I kindly requested a refund yesterday.

He insisted the update would be up yesterday or today.

Digging himself a hole or going to pull one out of the hat.

Don't lock this thread just yet, we need to know who will get their money back.

  Agreed.  Don't lock the thread.

It is the only place that ET box owners have to communicate their experiences.

I've just talked to Peter and he is now saying Monday but will not give a definate answer.  He also hung up on me after telling me to talk to the Chinese!

Its better for everyone if he (Pete) does use the thread at least everyone is kept informed.  He has gone into hiding it seems but people do appreciate the updates (when he gives them).  People have mentioned that bad feedback gets deleted from his own website so that doesnt seem a good place to discuss the issues.

Cant agree with you.  I think it should be left open, as it seems to be the best place for people to get info about the ET from.

I'd hate to have this thread locked as it seems to be the only place to get reliable updates on the ET.
I bought an ET box months back because it was cheap, well featured and had PVR coming just around the corner, prior to that I'd been holdng out for Sony's PlayTV.   Another no show product.

InspectorGadget: I've emailed the manufacturer asking specifically about the ET PVR update.  If I hear anything I'll let you guys know.

  Got a reply from them

"We are the manufacturer of eXtra Terrestrial,we are developing PVR for almost 2months. now a testing version will release, but may be after our holiday,5th Feb"

I have thanked Maggie for her response.  However the reply came from a personal email rather then the company address I sent a message to earlier.

It does raise a few questions though.  If they have been working on a PVR update for almost two months (that means after the 17th of November), that means that Peter has been advertising them on TradeMe with the upcoming PVR update before they even started working on it.  You'd have to be either incredibly optimistic or stupid to think that they could turn around a working PVR update in 2 weeks.

Furthermore, Peter has been advertising the PVR update on Trademe as arriving yesterday, knowing full well that the update would not be here until after the 5th of Feb.  And this is a testing version as well.

Some people have bought eXtra Terrestrial receivers and are relatively happy with them, on the other hand quite a lot of people have issues with their ET boxes. Whatever the situation, effectively banning discussion of the product on Geekzone would be a very strange response.

The only people who benefit from curtailing discussion of a less than ideal product are the suppliers of that product!

None of us has ever claimed to know better.  We just know full well what the limitations of the current software is.

The next question is, what are the features of the PVR?  Is it PVR Lite or does it have a full 8 day EPG?

"PVR update from factory......they have it working, but still some faults to fix in software..."

I believe we already knew this...

What is the update?

Is it just another communication that things have fallen even further behind....??

"so if theirs some geeks out their willing to help them in the factory, kindly fly over and tell them what to do, as it seems a lot of you know better then us....!!"

Anyone got a spell checker that posters can use?

Kindly front up with the relevant airfares, costs and fees and I am sure there will be some takers....

We'd probably all be (more quickly) better off with a more robust unit to boot....

[off topic: re spell checker]
Sure have - just use Firefix 3 and the spelling is checked for you right in the browser on anything you type - no third party checker required :)

But in Pete's case, it's not a spell checker he needs, it's a less itchy "Send" finger - but then he is head down, bum up hurrying up the programmers/beta testers ;)
Roll on that fateful day..

but seriously - how can we keep a copy of our current working firmware when we do come to the point of upgrading?

bazzer:   About the only issue I have is occasional dropout over coaxial.  HDMI is perfect and I don't watch many of the shows in 5.1 anyway.  For the price I paid, I'd say it was good value.  Maybe I got lucky?

See to me that's not good enough - would you tolerate a TV that dropped audio every now and again for no known reason? Or an AV amp? *shrug* Maybe you would, maybe it's just me.

I was simply pointing out that the box is not a total dog.  I have had plenty of consumer electronic products with known problems.  On some occasions I've taken them back because the issues were too frustrating to bear.  If the ET box is not good enough for you, don't buy it.  If you've already bought it, get your money back.  What are you using to watch your Freeview|HD?  It doesn't have any problems?

Nothing, so no, no problems! Tongue out I actually watch very little TV so I'm not prepared to pay $250 for 2 channels and better resolution/reception. I already have a DVD recorder so what I would be after would be an EPG recorder....otherwise the benefits don't outweigh the costs (for me, I realise others watch more TV so have different priorities).

The options for me at this point seem to be:
$1000 for the Zinwell...not gonna happen.
Wait for the Sommet....still waiting for an email let alone a product
Wait for the Vantage to get MHEG5...they're working on it but no dates
Wait for the ET.......
$500+ for the Hyundai.....don't have a dish and don't want one...makes it a $700 unit and I don't value TV that highly.

I relaise other people have other priorities and different prices they go for etc, this is just my position.
