Thanks folks. Forgot it was the app - not the OS. Done.

When you click "Check for Update" does your last successful check for update change to the current time?

I can mash the button all night long and the time doesn't change. Its like the request never makes it but there are no errors visible.

A reboot will force the unit to check for updates and the time will change at that point.

Thought i'd try a connection through personal hotspot on my Iphone to rule out 2degrees but the A2 won't connect to the wifi network

gives me a password error every time.

Feeling like smashing this piece of junk and mailing the bits to DishTV.

I think calling it a piece of junk is stretching. It works well for us and I wouldn't diss it.

With respect, when you cough up circa $400 and all you receive is frustration, then I can see where the junk comment came from.

Dish TV are long renowned for their "interesting" quality, and questionable performance, and do tend to launch equipment and software looking for beta testing before they should.

I recall earlier in this thread you were sent this unit and also the Smart VU device for testing (perhaps not having to use your own money for the privilege of using these devices?)  Will there be a more detailed review of these products?  You have given a few comments about usage and features of this box - but not exactly a detailed review.

As I said, total respect to you and what you bring to this forum, but I think you may of had a different view if your box was buggy for you and you had used your own money to pay for the gear.

I don't want no sugar in it - thank you very much

"Total respect", "with all due respect" usually means nothing. All you said is I did not pay for the boxes and therefore my opinion doesn't count.

Are there things I don't like? Sure. Not having Netflix on this box is stupid. Not a larger Play Store is stupid. TVNZ casting is not working (although the box has On Demand so a moot point anyway).

No, your point was clearly a jab.

No, my comment wasn't a jab at all.

My comment was that as you haven't paid for the box (fact) but if you had paid $400 bucks and it just provided you with an annoying cause of frustration (as in not working correctly), I can see why the earlier poster would be annoyed enough to call the box junk.  Just look at the history Dish TV has on this site for customer frustration.

My respect also extends to the fact I would be keen to read your review of the box, yes you have provided a few more comments now, but again, respectfully this isn't a review.

Is there a way to remotely record a programme from say a cellphone yet. I used to be able to do this with TIVO??

If you don't like the box, do what I did and return it and get a refund. I feel that this is the best way to make your point to Dish TV.

From the sound of all the things you have done to your box I would say as an educated guess that you must have a faulty unit. Every one else's has recived the update with no problems, mine was on 2d.

Where do you folks see the version? I might be blind but I can't see 116 or 118 anywhere. Also have the problem with "Check for updates" not changing the time - it says 2:45am and stays at that.

Have any of you tried using the TVNZ Android app to cast to this box? I found that, like the Sony A1 TV, the built-in cast returns a timeout and never works with TVNZ. Anyone else having this problem?

I think TVNZ have done something to break casting to "Chromecast built-in" from their Android and iOS apps. It doesn't work for me to my Shield either.

Yeah right!

That would require DishTV to actually have ANY downloads available for the A2 let alone a f/w update!

The firmware can now be downloaded from http://www.dishtv.co.nz/downloads

Copy the update.zip file onto a USB flash drive and insert into the A2.

From the Android Settings menu select About -> Local Update

Select SDB and once the copy process has completed select OK to install the upgrade.
