Dish TV set top boxes for Freeview plus are now available at retailers for about $150.00. I didn't by one because it doesn't have YouTube, just the new plus service and on demand. Not enough for me.

andrewcnz: I have a 2014 vintage lg smart TV. The same model in Australia does freeview plus. What's the chance it will work with the New Zealand freeview plus? Asked on the lg nz Facebook page and got no response.

I know in Australia that some of the TV manufacturers pushed a software update to their TV's and PVR's to enable Freeview Plus (Panasonic definitely did it) so hopefully the same will be true here. I have a very new PVR that should be compatible but so far no word on what is likely to happen with it. Still, I probably shouldn't hold my breath since the Netflix app hasn't appeared on it yet either, lol.

I thought I would check with Panasonic, since I have a DMR-XW440. Unfortunately they've confirmed it will only be available on the 2015 model (DMR-PWT550) and some 2015 model TVs.

At least Panasonic gave you a reply , getting any info from LG regarding the 2014 - 2015 TVs and Freeview plus is like pulling teeth.

I won't even bother trying to contact Sony about a 2011/2012 model then :)

the archived page for my 2014 sony bravia now says FreeviewPlus, in australia it can receive their freeviewplus. It looks like it runs the same software version as the 2015 models. So hopefully it will be freeviewplus capable.

Does freeview+ mean we will be forced to watch adverts? Unable to skip through them like Hulu?

Forced? That's up to you a MyFreeviewPlus receiver will let you fast forward them if you have recorded a show, But there is no skip feature for live tv or ondemand content

I think that's what he was referring to , Ondemand.

Yes I was referring to the ondemand stuff.
I guess the new TV's that have freeview+ built in will only allow you to watch Live and ondemand? There won't be a recording feature? I will still need a MyFreeview receiver to do that?

If this is the case then I don't see the point of upgrading my TV just to receive the ondemand (with annoying adds) extra?

Am I missing something here? Should I run off and buy a new freeview+ TV?

from what I understnd, it will be a nicer way of viewing OnDemand.  so instead of logging into a TVNZ app, or a TV3 app, searching for the content etc,  you will be able to use the 'reverse EPG' and just find the content you want and play via that, just as if you had recorded it yourself.

the UK has had Youview for a little while now, I think Freeview+ will be similar

I just bought a new TV, and when doing the research I did initially think I should get one with Freeviewplus, but then I realised I never ever watch anything from freeview anyway and I could save hundreds of dollars by buying a slightly older TV.  If, at some point, I dod decide to get Freeview+, I'll just grab a STB. I have plenty of HDMI slots on my amp anyway.

Yep you are correct, Unless you can manually record or time a recording if you have a USB plugged in. Although I think it depends on the brand of TV you have.

All our products will have live and ondemand as well as features of recording provided you have a USB device (Or a MyFreeview Unit)

More details will be announced soon :-)

I think you will find if you change the broadcast location to Australia on that TV it will give the option to turn on HBB TV under the programe settings , but this would mean doing a manual tune and resetting the time zone. It may then work with Freeview plus , I have not tested this yet as I don't think there is anything live to test on . It would be easier if LG would update the firmware for NZ seeing that the TV is obviously capable of using the service .
Just looked at the specs of your TV and it says that it does have Freeview Plus.
