Ordered mine from MyMemory at NZDT 1500 on the 5th and just received confirmation that they have sent it.
I emailed to ask if I had been lucky enough to snap one up just before they went out of stock (which I obviously was), and they said that they hope to have new stock coming in soon.

I also asked them if they had noticed a lot of orders for the PlayTV coming from NZ and they said they had definitely noticed.

Hopefully the UK mail situation doesn't delay it too much. Although I did hear that was sort of resolved??

Yay! Let the waiting being.

I got mine Tuesday, its delivery was delayed a couple of days by the strike, but I believe strike action shouldn't pose delays at the present time.

Good stuff guys. I think you'll all be mildly impressed with this but also glad everyone knows the limitations in advance. If you have a PS3 already, it's def a worthwhile addition if you live in a DVB-T signal area.

Bazzer, I'm waiting for the harmony/PS3 adaptor to arrive but went online and updated my remote profile in advance. I totally see what you mean about it being invisible and I'm stoked this will complete the harmony and wife setup! Thanks for pointing this out to me.

Enjoy everyone. It's my secret hope that once more people have this and Windows 7 media centre up and running there may be a stronger case for freeview to step off their high horse and broadcast more EIT data on the DVB-T service so these cool technologies actually work for us!

I have been using a few different Open Source platforms to watch/record Freeview HD for over 18 months now. I can tell you right now that Freeview don't give two dingos kidneys about the enthusiasts like you and me. The only way you are going to get more program info on your PS3 is if Sony write a MHEG5 stack for PlayTV.

I've definitely notices some pixelation/break up stuttering on TV3. It's happened twice now, but only under these conditions :

I have scheduled an HD program like CSI Miami to record and have decided to watch the first 20 mins or something, so have been watching the same channel whilst it has been recording. I've only noticed this on actual HD programs, so maybe the PS3 is struggling to do both, not sure.

Could others try this one night for me please? I'm not sure if it happened prior to upgrading the Hard drive, because I've haven't really watched under these circumstances often.

Also, I've missed the starts and ends of a few programs when booking them via the EPG directly. I had thought/assumed/hoped that when booked this way the recording would start via the EPG now/next info changing over to the next show, but it seems that even booking through the EPG still just sets a time based entry. So now I do add some extra time at the start and the end of the recording, even when it's not a full manual entry.

Haven't got my PlayTV yet so I do all my recording using gbpvr and watch using a Popcorn Hour. I have notuced occasionally pixellation and stuttering in the recording which I put down to a less than ideally aligned antenna since I will occasionally see these artifacts when watching live using a DVB-T tuner so no PC involved. It's worse on TVNZ for some reason and the lots bits etc. play havoc with the software I use to re-encode the AAC audio which I hopefully won't have to do when the PlayTV arrives. But I must get an an installer to check antenna alignment.

Since TV3 is full time 1080i, does it make a difference if the show is native HD or not? I wouldnt have thought so. Or maybe the bitrate or other parameters are changed during HD shows, I have no idea.

Have not noticed anything here Jaxson, like you I have recorded HD pragrams while watching the same program live or on time lapse and recordings are perfect. The only time I have had pixelation is when changing channel get a split second pixalation on live TV then it settles down. I am using a original 60gb PS3 with a WD 320gb internal drive.
Everything is working very well with PlayTV (other than the ovious EPG issue) VERY happy with it!!!

One thing I am looking into (to change the subject) is a DVB-T modulator and run a blu-ray player or MyskyHD into it so PlayTV will see it as another mux......could be a bit of fun!!

That sounds great, is it really possible? Keep us posted! I had a quick look online but didn't find too much. I saw some neat FPGA implementations, but I'm a bit out of that world these days. What devices are out there? Will they take HDMI input?

I'm just waiting for my PlayTV to arrive with my friend from the UK in about a month. At $105 it was hard to turn down. I'll pick up a new HDD closer to the time or later. I could wait for 750GB/1TB drives that fit (assuming WD don't?) but that size is probably overkill anyway. Are people really steering away from Seagate these days? Don't they have 5 year warranties?

Jaxson, I see you bought the WD 500GB. Where'd you buy yours from? Anyway if I wait a month or more prices will get even cheaper I suppose.

I got mine from notebookcity I think it was, as they had a cheap price on the harmony/ps3 adaptor, but in the end they found they didn't have it in stock anyway. Pricespy is your friend, but pconlineshop.co.nz had it really cheap, bout $130 including gst, not including freight.

Real easy/quick to change over, but longer to backup/restore. Just make sure you've downloaded the latest firmware to a usb stick first off the internet, just in case you get the issue I did where it won't instantly reformat the new drive. (this might be a firmware 3.01 thing maybe?). I had about 25gb on my original drive, and got about 400gb spare space once it was all in and formatted off a 500gb drive.

Just noticed this post as well, looks like TV3 really does require a lot of resources to display/record...

Oh yeah, got the harmony adaptor up and working. Sweet as, one remote for everything.

Regarding Seagates - I looked into it a little prior to getting my WD 5200rpm 500GB drive. The WD seemed to be the consensus option from what I saw, and there were quite a few bad reports about Seagates. I asked the guy instore when I was getting it (PB Tech Penrose) and he said Seagates quality has not been all there for some time.

Hey Guys,

Just thought I'd add my experience:

PS3 SLIM from PlayTech ($599, bundled with a game)

PS3 BluRay remote from PlayTech ($45)

PlayTV from DVD.co.uk (~$150 NZD)

Everything works great after running the latest update from within PlayTV. Limited EPG data, but I can use the internet listings/manually enter times if I want to record anything.
I think the PlayTV is a great device even if it is quarter the size of the PS3 Slim! The BluRay remote incorporates into the setup nicely. My only gripe is that booting the system from cold to watching Live TV takes a bit too long. Great picture when it does get going!
